Post T-Bars & Alignment

Well, I finally did it. I went and turned my torsion bar adjustment bolts 4 complete turns on each side; actually the passenger side required an additional 1/2 turn to make it even with the drivers side. My front end is now and even 1/4" lower than the rear end.

After reading all I could find on this site about this; I was expecting the ride to be terrible, but much to my surprise I could hardly even tell a difference, well maybe it feels alittle stiffer in the front, but maybe only by a hair. It even feels like it handles better too.

When I took it to the front end shop to have it aligned, the man said it was off but not by much. He installed the new adjustable cam bolts on each side; had to purchase a total of 4 cam kits.

Note: Previously, I went to my local Ford dealer, and asked the shop manager, and the owner if there would be to much stress on the cv joints and other front end components; they told me not to worry about it, and that it would be fine, and that they had turned up the torsion bars on a brand new 2001 truck to make the front level with the rear; per the cutomers request just a couple of days ago.

Question, why doesn't Ford just go ahead and install these cam kits at the factory?

4 Cam Bolts / Kits = $93.40
Labor = $89.95
Tax = $5.60

Total = $188.95

Ford sure thinks alot of their cam kits it looks like to me.

Any ways, it would have only cost me $39.95 if I didn't have to have these cams.

Just thought I would share the info, sorry to rattle on!

Cya, and I wish all a very Happy New Year!

Oh!, the truck appears to be totally level now, atleast my eye, can't pickup the 1/4" difference in the front.

Thumbs up

I cranked my t bars some time ago and the alignment shop said pretty much the same thing.Except the cam kits wouldn't be necessary.My truck rides a lot stiffer now.My buddy has a 99 excab and we cranked his right after mine.SHop said same thing to him.His truck doesn't feel that much stiffer.Maybe its because of the additional weight of the excab.Beets me.

I cranked mine two full turns to get it level. The toe was out pretty bad, but the camber and caster were both well within specs. I can't tell much of a difference in the ride either.

Your dealer will install the cam set and do an alignment at no charge if done prior to 12 months from delivery date or 12000 miles.
