Question Missing Spring Piece??

Hi all: I, like some others, are plagued by the rear end "clunk". It happens especially when the passenger side wheel drops (such as when turning right and the wheel drops off the pavement) or when the truck is tilting to the drivers side. I was underneath it tonight, and noticed on the passenger side that the "puck" at the rear of the main spring was missing - gone altogether. Could this be the cause of the clunking? I tried rapping the spring with a rubber mallet, and it kind of sounded the same. Any one else missing their "pucks"??

I also noticed that the springs seem to be moving, is this common??

BTW - its a 98 ORP, extended cab...Thanks, in advance

KK

Yep, a lot of people have rear springs that have 'shifted' including myself. I've never notice the noise you are talking about though. You can buy a spring clamps at the auto parts store. Good luck!

Is your truck still under warranty? If it is take it in for the springs "moving".(bottom one coming out?) and ford will buy you a new set.Mine had that prob.

I am sorry but english is not my strong language, what do you mean with the "puck"?

I have the same problem of the noise under the same circumstances you mentioned. Haven't done too much work on it.

kearney5-
Yes, I have a spindle lift. No, they do not rub, I trimmed the front valence a bit.

JMTRUCK,

It's a thin plastic disc that fits between each leaf spring. They usually crack or disappear over time.

I had to replace those "pucks" between my leaf springs. I think they cost me about $1 each from a spring and chassis shop. It took me about 1/2 hour. Jack the truck up, support it by the frame. That will allow the rear to droop enough to replace them. The springs will spread nicely without even having to unbolt the shocks. That's how it went on my '97 f-250.
