Post Lift Question.

I was looking at putting a lift on my truck to fit some 285/75R16 BFGoodrich Mud Terrains, or same size Goodyear MTR's. I'm extremely short on cash so I can't do the entire suspension lift like I want. I was looking instead at a 3 inch body lift and 2" front coils. There's a local shop that can put on the $250 coils for $90. So thats about $350. But then they said it was $350 to put on the $180 body lift. Whats the deal with that? Is it that much harder to put on the body lift? I was planning to do that part myself to save some cash, should I reconsider?

That's a good price on the install of the body lift, considering it takes 12-15 hours to do. But the $180 for the 3" lift is alittle pricey. You can get a Performance Accessories 3" lift for about $130.00 from JCWhitney.com. I haven't done the lift yet, it's still sitting in a box in the garage. Relatively easy but very time consuming. Get ahold of JMTruck, I believe he did the lift by himself and can email you the instructions. Good luck.

I installed my body lift myself, and if I can do it anyone can. I know nothing about vehicles. Like Jupiterak said, it is time consuming. I recoment doing it on a weekend that you have free. It took me 8 hours of each day by myself. If you have help it would go much faster. The instructions are pretty good, pictures would be nice. I will tell you one thing though, This website is the greatest, because if you have any questions, There is someone here who would know. I'm not sure if yours is a 2 or 4 wheel drive. On 4x4s, you can clear 35s with a 3 inch lift. So you would think that you could fit 33s with the same, if yours is a two wheel drive. Not quite sure though. If you do have any questions about the body lift or anything, let me know. Unfortuanly I don;t have the instructions anymore.

The 285/75R16 Mud Terrains will clear, and will not rub under off-roading conditions. I've had them for close to a year now, and haven't heard anthing, or seen any rub marks. JMtruck emailed me the body kit that he installed and figure it to be quite a chore. There's very little pictures to go buy, and for me, is fairly hard to follow when there identifying certain parts. I think JMtruck said it took him about 16 hours, but I think he took his time, and also did it in his driveway.

Well, I will drop a line or two since I felt some whispering in my ears. Mav07, if you need a copy of those instructions just email me your email address. All the things our buddies are saying regarding me and the body lift are true. If you have a specific question just let me know, I will be more than happy to help.

Up to date the body is still over the frame and haven't lost any part of the truck in the freeway.

Would it be easier for me then to leave the body lift to the experts and do the front coils myself? I was told that suspension was alot harder than body lift. I've got myself on my crew and a couple other friends, one of whom has installed a body lift on his wagoneer, so how long do you guys think it might take us. We're not experts, but were not amateurs either!

It also has to do with the available tools that you have. I'm sure you'll come across a part that needs a special Ford tool to disassemble. One important detail that I noticed in the instructions is that you have to lift both the cab and the box at the same time probably because of lines that are attached to both with little slack between. I really have no idea how you would do this without the use of a hoist.

Well, It's bought! $140 after tax. I had to drive about 20 minutes away to get it cheaper, but it was worth it. I went to 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers, near the astrodome. They've also got an awesome sale on tires. They had buy 3 get 1 free on all ProComp and BFGoodrich tires. Thats damn good. 4 Procomp muds for $600 doesn't sound bad. I might have to go for that when I get to that part!

Mav07-
I bought my spindles, tires and wheels from the same ORW you went to. Pretty good place. I got the same 3/1 deal on the tires. Kinda nice! So far, I've done all the work myself or with a little help. But, I haven't tackled the body lift, yet...

Good luck!

The purpose of lifting the bed and the cab at the same time is to protect both, since they will hit each other because of their style where the cab is close to the bed. What I meant is the back of the cab will hit the front of the bed or viceversa if one or the other is lifted alone.

Just put one of the jacks under the cab and the other under the bed. Do two or three pumps at a time in each until you get to the desired height. That's the reason you will need to prepare (from 2 x 4's) like wooden blocks of around 16" of height. The cables and wires run through the frame not from the cab to the bed.

Mav07

You can do it. If you are planning on getting some help, the better. Remember what I told you before, stay organized and lock the beers. Good luck.
