Question Shock Opinions?

I've got the factory dual shock setup on the front of my 92 F150 4x4. I need to badly replace the stock shocks I'm riding on. Anyone have any opinions about what would be a good replacement set, keeping in mind that I'm replacing 6 shocks not 4 so something that won't break my bank account would be nice. I've heard that because there's 4 shocks up front I don't really need a stiff shock because there are 4 doing the work of 2. Thanks in advance fellas.

I've heard good things about Ranchos and you know that. But those may break your bank account like the Edelbrock's and the Bilstein's.

I am getting four Gabriel's Gas Ryder LT VST (Velocity Sensitive Technology). Even though I am buying mine here in Puerto Rico from a local distributor, you can find those at JCWhitney for $24.99 and may be lower with the different promotions and sales they run all the time. They have the Quad's for your truck. In my case I just call yesterday and the fronts for my truck were in back order until the end of november, and that's too much of a wait for me. There's one blown shock in the front already and all the bushings are a mess. One thing to take into consideration is that this Gabriel's come with rubber bushing and usually the more expensive units will come with polyurethane bushings and this is a plus. It's your call and good luck.

I've had pretty good luck with the Monroe reflex. Right now they're 4 for the price of three. They are a little stiff, but I like that "truck feel".

Since you have the dual shocks up front, you HAVE to get shocks valved for that. otherwise you will have a pogo stick ride up front!

I know that Rancho makes the 5000s & 9000s in dual shock valving. I am sure most other manufacturers do also. I will be a different part number than a bronco or F150 with single front shocks.

Thanks for the info guys. Are the Gabriels and the Monroes designed for the quad shock setup? The reason that I ask is my buddy who is also my mechanic said what Matt said, "If I don't get a softer shock I will be driving a truck with a pogo stick for a front end." From what I understand you've got 4 shocks now doing the work of 2 so it's not neccessary to have a stiff shock up front. I do a LOT of hunting and where I need to go I have to trust that the shocks are up to the challenge.

MNM,

I had the same set up on my 83 Bronco with a 4 inch lift. I replace mine with ProComp Explorer 3000's. They seemed to do a great job. just about right without being harsh. Much less than Rancho's. I think all six were around $150-160.

Thanks JBR! I knew if I waited long enough someone who went through what I'm going through would chime in. Where'd you get your PCs?

Yes, the Gabriel's come in the Quad Version. You can call JCWhitney and they will let you know about availability. Price is $24.99 for each unless you can get a catalog with a promotion like I did for my last order. For example: orders over $150.00 get 15% discount.
