Check your CV Boots to make sure they are not torn. I had a torn CV boot that allowed all the grease to escape. Unfortunately I didn't notice this for several months and now it makes a loud popping sound when I turn very sharply, especially in four wheel drive.

It could very well be a worn out pitman arm or idler arm.

It sounds to me like you are hitting the stops on the lower A-arm. If it is doing this only when you have turned your steering wheel as far as it will go, then it is likely the 'travel stops' or whatever you want to call them. I put some anti-seize grease on the stops and the pop went away.
