Question Lowering a 2000 4wd Expedition

Does anyone know the best way/kit to lower a 2000 4wd Expedition. Bell tech has a 4wd Ford kit, but they say it only works on the pickups. I am in the process of buying a leftover 2000 that I want to turn into my personal version of the SVT Thunder, but I don't know what my options are for dropping it. I'm trading in a 99 Lightning (not enough room) and it's killing me. Should I get the LLS? Can I modify the Bell tech kit? I gotsta know!

Thanks in advance.

Cool

Just one question. Why get a 4X4 truck to build a performace street vehicle out of? I am not really familiar with the differences in the 4x4 bell tech kit, but I know you could slam a 4X2 Expy. Even in 2 wheel drive mode, you are going to loose performance if you have that 4x4 font end under there.

Either way I'm pretty sure you want to stay away from the LLS if you are going to lower it. If you like the ride of an LLS vehicle, then maybe the best way to lower would be using airbags.

Personally, I think it would be awesome to have an Expedition with a Lightning front end and wheels, not to mention the drive train and then make the interior really plush with an awesome audio/video system. Would make a top knotch show truck.

Good Luck

Thanks Chris,

I live in the Northeast where we get snow. I currently have a Lightning as my daily ride and it can't get out of it's own way when the roads are slippery.

In my humble opinion, the new Expys are more AWD than 4x4. I had once read that Ford actually tested the Lightning as an AWD vehicle using the Navigator drivetrain, but were worried about too much torque at the transfer case.

I figured if I was going to go through all the hassle and expense of doing up an Expy like a Lightning, I would try and use an AWD platform.

I have also heard that Bill Thomas from Full Effect in San Bernadino, CA has a kit to lower AWD Navs and Expys, but I can't locate him. His old phone number is out of service and his web site is gone. Maybe you can trace the "Thomas" family tree and locate him for me (just kidding).

Thanks for the reply

BellTech does have a kit. Ask Roger on the Online store, I think he can get you the kit. 1-5in drop front and 3or4in coil for the rear. If you get LLS you can only lower it slightly by the factory. I've seen 2 around my town with 4wd/AWD Expys with the drop. It will look like a slightly lowered 2wd.
