Question How hard to install lift kit?

How hard is it to install a lift kit? I want to do a 6" lift (3" body, 3" suspension). Installing blocks under the rear lift spring sounds easy but the front suspension seems like a pain in the neck because it involves messing with the steering. If i do a body lift how many parts do i have to move around and remount?

I have a '92 f-150 Custom 4x2 currently with 15" tires but i want to go up close to 30"

I am in the middle of a project similar to the one you mentioned above. I already did the 3" body lift but the suspension lift will have to wait until next year, unfortunately.

The body lift is very time consuming, as a matter of fact it could take more time than the suspension lift. Even though I haven't installed the suspension lift I have been reading and listening to other members in the forum and the suspension lifts are rated in the range of 7-12 hours. The body lift took me around 14-16 hours of a regular weekend (I did it by myself). All this depends, of course, of your mechanical skills, your tools and lots of space needed to work and move freely. Not only more floor space but ceiling height as well.

Speaking of suspension you do not mess with the steering. Remember that what you are doing is replacing components from the steering and front suspension with engineered parts from recognized companies.

If you send me your address I will photocopy and send to you the instructions for the body lift so you can see beforehand what you are getting into. Those will be for the 97 and 98 F150, but they can give you a good idea. Should be similar. Also you can go to Product Reviews and there you will find the 3" body lift.

Another good idea is contacting the different suspension companies and ask for a copy of the instruction for your year model. That will help a lot.

If you think you can do it, go for it. Good luck.

Question

Hey JMTruck, I have a couple questions for you that were kind of missed. Or if you miss post I'll just e-mail you to get the instructions on it.

What brand of body lift did you use, and what was the cost of it? Also what are lift lips. From the pictures on your website, I'm not able to to see what they are. I can just imagine the problems that I guy would run into installing the lift. I never even considered the engine compartment, extending all the lines and brackets would be hell! If you could get back to me, that would be great, otherwise I'll just e-mail ya.

Thanks for the e-mail reply JMTruck. It would be great if you could scan that manual and e-mail it to me, but if it's to much trouble, don't worry about it. This was one of the many things that I was thinking of getting. Thanks again.
