97 ford f150 front suspension
As stated I have a 97 ford f150 4X4. I use the truck for light snow plowing in the winter here in Michigan. I am wondering if there is an after market Torsion Bar to replace the stock ford units. I know ford also made a f250 with a torsion bar front suspension but after a little checking I found it was the same light duty unit as the 150. I need a little more support for the plow. I did some checking also to see if there was a coil over shock that may help my problem but because of clearance limitations in the shock area I gave up on that idea. Thanks in advance for the help....
I haven't heard of any. You might want to check Summit Racing, Wrenchhead or Truck Performance. They all have sites on the web.

Alot of guys on here have had trouble with truckperformance though. I didn't have trouble but when I saw their shipping prices I did not order from them. If you do order from them don't mention this site, they don't like us very much.

I wish I had a clear answer for you on this issue, but go out and let us know what you find with your research. One thing I did find when I was researching suspension lifts for the 4x4's, on Superlift's website in their info for our trucks, they do mention and recommend getting an aftermarket torsion bar if you get their lift and go for the added height by cranking it. From what I got out of it, they first recommended getting one from your dealer or if I remember correctly, they said they made/sold them. I hope some of that helps, or at least gives you somewhere to start. Let me know if you find anything.
I know that in the Explorers with the IFS, there is different load rated torsion bars. Like A, B, and something like C being the heaviest rated.
I would go down to the Ford dealer and find out if the F150s are the same (I assume they are as far as they have different bars cause a 150 standard cab weighs less than say a supercrew). They see if they can help you determine which one you have. they may even have specs on the bars.
If you get that info, maybe there is a stiffer bar you can get from Ford. If you are maxed out there, then you can have a good idea of what rating of aftermarket units you will need.
