Angry Bad balljoints at 50K

My 97 wouldn't pass inspection because lower ball joints were bad. Well I checked them out myself and they were shot at 50K!!Then my buddy who runs the dealers parts department said that early 97's had a problem with ball joints so before the end of the year(97) they superceeded the part number which means they knew of inferior ball joints but quickly changed the part before too many slipped out the door. There are not too bad to put in but that just plain sucks....

I guess that what your saying is correct,
my 98's joints are fine at just over 44,000
The non-lubricating ball joints still make
me wonder sometimes. Are ball joints
really that advanced? it's still a metal to metal contact piece isn't it? Think about
the falcon, mustang, granada etc... they all
have that thread and bolt, steel on steel
upper a-arm assembly on them. Well at
least you knew when to replace them........

Question

Did you have a vibration over small bumps that transferred to the steering wheel? mine front suspension just started feeling loose in the last few weeks. kind of feels like the steering box
is bouncing around but I checked it and
the mounting bolts are tight. also I have
a grinding feel (can't hear) that comes through the wheel when lightly braking,,,
Does any of this sound familiar?
