Question Lifting options for 98 f-150 4x4

I was hoping someone might be able to give me an idea of how much money I can expect to spend lifting my truck 3" or so. I'd want to use a suspension lift...installed by someone who knows more than me. I'd also want to buy new tires to accompany the lift. I've got the 17" stock rims...would they need replacing? How much would I need to spend for the lift, installation, new tires, etc. Thanks.

Cheapest suspension lift is the Trailmaster 4" which retails for about $1200.00. If you aren't going to do the installation, I take it you're probably going to take it to a shop, and they're going to charge about $350.00 to $450.00 for installation. If you're using a 4" suspension, then you'll probably at least want 33" tires which yes, sorry to say should be put on aftermarket wheels, because the 17x7 stock wheels really aren't wide enough to run a 12.5" tire. After that, always think about a ring and pinion gear upgrade especially if going with a 35" or over tire, and that for parts and labor is always about $1,000-$1400. Or....to save a lot of money just go with a body lift (lots of people have them and no complaints that I've heard of, and can run up to a 35" tire for about $450.00 for parts and labor)

Thanks, sdiesel316...the problems with a body lift are:
1. I have a grill guard and nerf bars mounted to frame.
2. My 4wd shifts from the floor, not a switch.
3. I'm also concerned about how it might affect my warranty.

Hey Swamp Rat, my nerf bars are mounted to my frame and that is a problem I hafta tackle pretty soon, cause they do pretty much take away the purpose of my body lift. As for the grill guard, I put one on too, and it does bolt into the frame. I just had to drill the damn brackets all the way through the frame so it would sit where it is supposed to. I guess I'm just proving that it can be done, but doing those things is a pain in the a__.
