I know it's depressing seeing your own brand new vehicle with rust. I would simply take it back to the dealer, and express your concerns, they will more than likely just sandblast it off and spray some undercoating on.

Anyways, as thick as the upper and lower A-arms are; it would probably take 25-30 years to completely rust through.

My new 2000 F-150 had some rust around the rear axle, from where they chained it down while transporting it from the plant.

I just got the rust off the best I could with a scotch bright, and sprayed it with some rubberized undercoating.

Hope this helps ...

Post HELP! Rust on Lower control arm

My Expedition is brand new and I was shocked to see that the lower control arms are completely covered with rust. This is the part of the front end that connects to the back part of the front wheel's brake assembly. Is this something I should expect from Ford? Has anyone else experienced this? It's a same paying almost $40K and seeing so much rust.

Thank you in advance

Kill the rust first before you paint or undercoat it. Spray Ospho (available anywhere that sells auto paints) on the rust to chemically turn it to black iron. If you only cover it up with paint or undercoat untreated, it will rust even worse because you just sealed in the moisture and sealed out the air

Thanks for the advice. I looked again and to be specific, it looks like the spindles that are rusted. There's a picture of the OEM on roberto's lift pics on this section. It just sucks having seen rust on a brand new truck.
