Lightbulb Any experience with a 4-link setup?

Hey,

Has anyone done up a four-link setup out there? I am thinking real hard about going that direction (w/air) but I need to keep my truck as a daily. How does the ride/handling characteristics differ from leaf?

Any response would be great

Later...Bigmike

Heres the deal with the 4 link. Basically there are a few options. One is a triangulated 4 link, where the bottom bars go straight back and the top bars are at an angle. Only problem with this is the gas tank gets in the way. Some people put the top bars reversed, like from the axle to the frame behind the axle (Reverse 4 link), but in doing so, ur pinion angle will change throughout the travel. A 4 link with panhard, is ok for non adjustable suspension but ur axle will sway side to side as u air it up and dump it. Still it is very popular. The way i have mine is like a 3 link, where the top piece is shaped like a trangle, kind like /\ This holds the axle in place so i dont need a panhard.

As far as ride goes, If u do air in the back, and have the bag mounted on the axle it will ride about the same as stock, myabe a little softer. For a really soft ride, u can mount the back like a cantilever setup, which is how i have mine. This way the bag is mounted infront of the axle, between the frame and the bottom link. U can get more lift this way also.

I can post pictures of my setup if ud like to see it.
If u have anymore questions feel free to email me at cpt2222@yahoo.com

That would be great if you could post them for me....You live in the L.A. area don't you? I'm down in So.Orange county.
Are you goin to the truck show at the orange county fairgrounds? If so maybe we can hook up so I can check it out.(see thread in "events and happenings" under "another Socal event")
Thanks for your input..

Neat!

The Internet and those digital cameras are really a boon to customization.

Post more, please.

Hey, big.mike,
You need to go to:http://www.cachassisworks.com/

Look at tech tips.
There's a how-to tub & fourlink your (chevy) truck.

Cris Alston has been building race cars for years. He shares the reasons stuff works & don't work, and tells how to set it up. Terms like instant centre come to mind, and he tells you how to find it, and why. I read his chassis manual once. Very informative.

Capt1 Nice truck! I can appreciate how much work it is to custom slam one that hard.
Mine will have to stay stock hieght, so I can carry steel for my business.. It's STILL a real work truck.
