Question 2" body lifts

hey there...i am new to this bulletin board. i own a 98 f-150 ex-cab,brightred w/silver frost, lariat 4x4. my truck has a westin brushguard, rollbar, 6 **** cepek super-offroader lights, westin nerfs,5%windows, clear tails and corners, 16x10 american racing baja's mounted up with 35x12.50r16 swamper ssr's. my tires rub bad now, i used to have 16x8 centerline hellcats and no rubbing. new wheels made the tires rub. i purchased a **** cepek 2" body lift and it had no instructions or parts list and looks pretty difficult. has anyone installed a body lift themselves? i need all the info i can get. the tires rub the factory lariat flares and the front air dam...which have been trimmed alot already. i need help. also, can i crank the torsion bars up and put an add-a-leaf in the rear for leveling? will this put strain on anything? about how many inches can i gain? all help is appreciated.

Cool

TIMSBIGRED,

If you can return the "****" Cepek Body lift, do. Then order a Performance Accessory 3" body lift. I'm guessing you went with a body lift due to cost. The Performance Accessory 3" lift comes with INSTRUCTIONS, bumper relocator brackets and all the extensions (4x lever, steering) you will need.

As for the T-bars, you can only get about an inch or so from them. They will only level the truck out, not really give a lift. If you do the T-bars, have the truck aligned.

I know, I don't have a B-lift. I reaschered them, bought one, then returned it a week later and I'm saving for a suspension lift. I've gotta hide the $1500 from the wife. So I do have some credibility on the subject.

'00 Expedition XLT, Silver w/Dark graphite interior, 5.4L, Stull Billet Grill and some other stuff. All in all she'll stay stock. Ok, maybe a Flowmaster 50 series soon.

Wink

THANKS FOR THE HELP.....I WENT WITH A BODY LIFT BECAUSE I DO NOT LIKE THE VERY TALL TRUCKS...YOU GET INTO MORE THINGS LIKE DRIVELINES, GEARS, ECT...I LIKE THE DESERT STYLE PRE-RUNNERS. THE BODY LIFT SEEMED MORE SIMPLE AND PRACTICAL, BUT AFTER CHECKING INSTALL PRICES I ALMOST CHANGED MY MIND...THE TRUCK SHOPS AND 4X4 SHOPS AROUND HERE EITHER WANT $350-$400 OR $40 AN HOUR. THAT'S AS MUCH AS INSTALLATION ON A SUSPENSION LIFT. YOU MENTIONED A 4X LEVER EXTENSION....I HAVE THE ELECTRIC **** FOR INGAGING MY 4X4. ANYWAY, **** CEPEK MUST HAVE WENT OUT OF BUSINESS OR SOMETHING, I CAN'T FIND THEM ON THE WEB AND THIER PHONE IS ALWAYS BUSY OR JUST RING, RING, RING, RING, RING, RING. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. I CRANKED THE TORSION BARS LAST NIGHT, AND FOUND I GAINED ABOUT AN INCH. WE ARE GOING TO THE TIRE SHOP FOR AN ALIGNMENT TODAY. THANKS AGAIN.

Hey, trash the Cepek kit (if you can) and go w/ the Performance Accessories 3" . It will move your bumpers up to the correct height. Most 2" BLs don't move the bumper and then you have a 2" gap...I saw a Chuvy the other day w/ one and it wasn't pretty. (as if it didn't look bad enuff stock...heh heh...to each his own however)

For more info search this site under my name or CCLA...you should find plenty of info on doing the lift yourself, as this is where I got all of my info b4 I did mine (it's not hard, just time consuming)Cheers

Talking

Expect it to take 12 hours or so. Lots of little things that are a pain in the ****. You'll need 2 jacks and some 2x4's cut up into 6 inch peices to stack ontop of the jacks. an Impact wrench really helps and you'll need a special torx bit for the bed and cab bolts. I have the performance accessories 3" lift and I highly recommend

Thumbs up

Hey CCLA; Nice job the truck looks pretty tuff. I was pleased to see 35's I wondered if they would fit. Got a couple of ??'s for you. With your experiance do you think 36x12.50's would fit with a 3" body lift?? I have a 2000 f-150 ORP. It looked like you still had some room with yours. I plan to run swamper sx's but just not sure if they'll fit. Also what is the width of your BFG's? Once again great job!!

Hey, ccla, do you have any problems pushing the 35" tires with the 4.2L? I was debating whether to get 35" or 33" with the new 3" more lift. I know that the 6" total lift will clear the 35" tires, but I want to make sure that the V6 can handle it. I only have the 3.31 rear end, but I will be changing that to either 3.73 or 4.10 anyway. Thanks for your help.

**** Cepek went bankrupt. So keep the lift or sell it in the classifieds and get the performance lift.

The **** Cepeck store here in Tucson has a sign on the door that says we will open again in about 2 weeks. However, that was about 4 months ago. I talked to a guy looking in the window one day that said they had his downpayment on some parts and now he can not get hold of anyone to get his money back.

Fla Cracker : FYI I'm running in a 4x2. But yes the 36x12.5's will fut under a 4x4 orp with the body lift. You'll have to trim some of the plastic valance in the front though.

CR1: It does OK but I have the 3.55 rear end and its a little slow getting up to speed. Hopefully next week I'll be ordering those 4.56's to help.
