Talking ADVICE ON LIFTING

I would like to use this space to try to understand lifting my 1998 F150 Xcab 4x4. I really would like to lift my truck but after driving a lifted 93 Ford Bronco I know that it is definitely hard on the vehicle. Can someone recommend a particular brand of lift that somehow keeps the great ride I have now, or which lift would help stress cracks? Does anyone know how I can find out what gears I have to determine tire size for gear ratio? My truck has the Triton 5.4 with overdrive. Also, is there any place that I can find out exactly what my truck came with at the time it was delivered?

Not sure exactly what you are asking, anytime you lift a truck it is going to change your ride, either by the tire change or lift. You will have to sacrifice the ride alittle for the look. bigED has just lifted his and I am sure he will give you some advice, but everytime I have lifted a truck the ride has suffered alittle. Except the 4x2 spindle kit, but the tire change affects the ride after that.....Good luck. Dave

ps..The bronco has a short wheel base so your ride with the truck will be better...

What I am trying to find out is, i know with the independant front suspension I want to get a lift that gives me the best ride, as well as knowing what others have done, and what they would do differently if they could start over. Im also wanting to know if one lift is better than another for the 98 Ford F150.

A body lift doesnt affect the ride of your truck. I just installed a performance accesories 3 inch body lift, with 315 75 16 BFG ko's on 16 x 8 ultra wheels. The truck actually seems to ride better now. The shifter being three inches lower is not very noticeable.

Cool

DAVENSA is correct. You are going to notice some ride difference, you just cannot get away from that.
I put a 4inch Rancho lift on my 2000 f-150 4x4 with 33 inch BFG ko's. The ride is much the same as stock because I didn't crank the front torsion bars all the way. It is a bit stiffer on bumps, but as far as regular road driving it is smooth as a baby's a$$.
I don't know which brand lift to recommend, but I did alot of research on my lift choice and I chose between the Rancho and the Superlift. The only reason I didn't go with the Superlift is I heard from several people both in the industry and people who had a Superlift that the steering linkage was faulty.
Good luck and the only word of caution I have for you is once you lift it, it will never be high enough.

Yeah, Hey Jason, lets see that truck!!!! I think that the 315's are a good size for our trucks, but I am soooo indecisive about wheels....I really like the Enkei Wun Gun wheels like on the "Himalaya" concept Expy, but great gawd those babys are expensive...and I have never seen them in person....

Also, are the 8 inch wheels wide enough to look right with the 315's??? I also like Ultra Sphere's, and I think they come in 16x8 but I'm not sure...

eriko,
It may just be a glare or something, but are those weights on the outside of your rim? Down at the bottom about 5-6 oclook. If so they arent suppose to be there....Dave

Why hasn't anybody mentioned spindles? Between spindles and a body lift, you can get 6 inches of lift with very little or no ride difference.

the reason that no one has said any thing about spindles is because the guy that posted the topic has a 4x4 and spindles are for 2wd.
