Spindle lift problem
If any of you are planning on doing a spindle lift on your own, make sure you have an 18MM socket or wrench. I found out after I had the front end on stands and the wheels off that a standard Craftsman metric rachet set doesn't have an 18MM socket. Mine has a 17MM and then a 19MM.
A 3/4 socket will started stripping the bolt. Oh well, I put everything back together and will start again after I get an 18MM socket.

I just ran into the same problem when I installed 4 shocks on my 1998 F-250 Light Duty. The bolts on the top of the factory shocks are 18mm. I have what I thought was a fairly complete set (150 pieces)of Craftsman sockets like you and mine also jump from 17mm to 19mm. I was able to use a 3/4 wrench on the stud bolts on the rear shocks - but had to use a "stubby" wrench to get it on the stud bolt because of the angle. I bought a 18mm deep socket for the top bolts on the rear.
I'm thinking of doing a body lift on my truck - I've seen lots of references to "Spindle lifts" Please excuse my ignorance - but what is a spindle lift, who makes them, and how much do they cost? Thanks.

The spindles are used to lift the 2WD pickups 3" in the front w/o altering the stock suspension. An add-a-leaf or blocks are used to level the rear.
Bullseye makes the spindles and Pro Comp sells them. The spindles and blocks/leafs are somewhere between $500-$700 dollars depending on where you get them.
I think I am going to have to buy a 18mm socket tomorrow and try again.

Sorry can't be there to help. this job is just taking way to mich of my time. Well I think a few people are going to try and meet at the academy or somewhere hope you can make it. Let me know how the lift goes.
I found the same 18mm problem when I serviced my front wheel bearings. The brakes were 18mm. I now own two 18mm sockets; one regular and one long one.
There are a couple of 16mm bolts on these trucks also. Who thinks this stuff up?
The tool guy?
