54regcab, Try a set of lowering shackles. I think you can get them for less than $50.00 pick up an isssue of Truckin magazine.

54regcab, You can purchase a 2" rear shackle kit to level out your truck. You can even buy it through the F150 Online.com website. Just go to the Digital Marketplace and place a price request using the Feedback form.....

Thumbs down

Called a local shop and they quoted 189.00 for rear shackes not including installation.
The online store just had the complete kits (front and rear) for sale.
Belltech hasn't even started making shackles for 99 models.
Might try fabtech.
Do you have to replace rear shocks?
Local shop said truck would bottom out if I didn't

That local shop lied. Find someone else fast. I put a 2" rear drop on mine with the factory shocks and have had no problems. I put the edelbrocks on later.

FrankS where did you get yours from and how much where they?
To heck with this bogus shop.
I felt the cheese thicken when he started talking new shocks.
Did you do the install yourself or have someone do it?
If you did it yourself how hard was install?

I did it myself. If you have a floor jack and 2 jack stands you can do it. Just make sure you have no weight on the axle(tires just barely touching the ground)when you take the bolts out of the shackles. Jack the frame up first, and then support the frame with the jack stands. I think I paid 49 or 59 bucks from Performance Prod(1-888-425-2885). They are made by Bell-Tech. Hope this helps.

Cool

Frank thanks for the info.
I found one at a reputable speed shop for $69.95.
I don't have the equiptment to do the install
ie floorjack
What is a reasonable install cost?
A local garage told me $50.00.

It should'nt cost more than 75 or 100 bucks. With the right equipment they should have it done in less than an hour. Just shop around or you could do it yourself and buy a jack and 2 stands with the money you saved. Hope this helps ya.

Geez, Aim (which has 20 page ads in Truckin and Sport Truck Mag.) sells their rear shackles for a 1999!, for just $17 bucks a set. You can even get Zerts included I think for $19.00. If all you'll do is the shackles, then the stock shocks will still work. I cant believe a shop quoted you that price and that opinon and advice. This is the only place to get the best advice. Good luck to ya, it will look so much better.

Sure do 54L its www.truckn.com. Go for it, you won't regret it one bit!!!
I had great success with mine, and AIM was very helpful with all my dumb questions.
I even received the wrong size shock (just one), they replaced them all with the right size and an upgrade with no charge and didn't even have to return the others (I can be VERY persuasive)!!

Cableguy,
Does the 2" drop in the rear level out the truck or does still sit a little higher in the rear? Don't want the rear lower than the front. How does the Herculiner look. Would you recommend it? Don't want to spend $300-$400.

Cool

I put on the shackles first and that just wouldn't do it so I installed the hangers. Whew! the hangers were really a *&^# (excuse my language), but both sides took about 4 hours. But that leveled it out some what, I also lowered the front approx. 3".
The Herculiner is the way to go: total cost $129.00. I bought the kit which comes with a gallon can which will do a 6' bed then I bought a quart extra and added another coat to the bed only (did the sides with the gallon). Do it in one thin coat on one day, then another thin coat the next day. Be sure to "dab" it on the sides, not brush it on it will streak the rubber in the mix. You want it even. Learned that lesson on my old 89 ford f-150 4x4.
It looks great , is durable and very inexpensive.
Check out the stance of my lowering and CAF150's.

Talking

Well I just put some 2" shackles on and they make the truck look much better
Ride and handling are also much better
I got the mechanic across the street from my work to put them on in exchange for an old VCR
The truck doesn't feel as big but if I need a reminder how big my F150 is then I can always ride in my sisters Pontiac Sunbird
