I have the rancho 9000's on mine and I love them so far. They have 5 settings you can put them on that controls rebound/firmness. setting 1 in the softest, too soft for me, but setting 5 is rock hard, for heavy towing/off-roading. I keep mine on 3 while driving empty, it is afirmer ride than when my truck was brand new!! I got them for around $70 a piece. Good luck

I have to agree with ORPLarit, My vote is with the Rancho 9000's. I had Edelbrocks, which are a very nice shock, but I like the adjustability of the 9000's. I thought the Edelbrocks rode a little stiff. I installed the remote kit with them so I can adjust them on the road. My .02

I think anyone will agree that any good aftermarket shock is better than what it came with. I went with Trailmasters cause they are the off roaders choice around here. $50 a piece. I went with the Invader N7 cause it was the less agressive one of there top two choices. Great feel and stiffer in turns. Eliminated a lot of body roll. But any good one will improve your ride if you like it stiffer.

I just put Rancho RS5000's on my 97 F150 XL/SC. Great replacements for everyday work truck. I would go for the RS9000's if you need a bit more. Not difficult to put on but you will need: 18mm deep well socket and open end wrench for the rears. You will need a 21mm deep well socket and open end wrench plus a 13mm for the lower control arm nuts.

hey oemtech: did the 5000's improve the ride or just bring it back to stock. how firm on the road or offroad. i don't need anything serious but the factory ones stink.

Cool

I have a "street" truck, 65 shelby and my wife has a 97 Cougar sport. My first choice is Bilstein but for my daily drivers I have always used KYB, purchased at PST Performance Suspension Technologies, a set of 4 runs about $115 for a truck w/lifetime warranty. Excellent with regards to rebound control, firmness and general control (used these on a truck I used to race SCCA with years ago when I couldn't afford the Koni's or Bilstein's) and I have only had 1 fail since I have been using them on my cars during the past 15 years!
