Post Edelbrock Shocks

Has anyone installed the Edelbrok shocks on there F150? If so is there a big difference on the ride? Is it worth the money?

Thanks

99XLT,

The ride is pretty much the same, very comfortable. The handling is definitely improved especially in cornering and at high speeds, less body roll. They are expensive but I think they are worth it.

Do a search for older postings, and you will find some comments. I started a thread called Edelbrock IAS Review, around September or so.
They are better than stock, and you will see slight improvements in all areas of shock performance, with a pretty big reduction in body roll. The shock bushings are much stiffer than stock. If your stock shocks are worn out, the improvements will be big.

Installation is not too bad, but complicated by the fact that the rear shocks are difficult to compress.

After owning this truck for a year and wathcing this board for six months, I think the biggest gain in handling would be to replace the tires with something decent, but this is even more expensive than the shocks.

Ford did a great job with the handling and ride of these trucks, but there is always room for improvement!

I am interested in anyone's thoughts on the Edelbrock IAS shock. Several months ago I intalled Bilstein's and was/is very happy with them as far as improving body roll and bounce. Now as I get older, I would like to soften up the ride a bit. (You might ask why I bought a 250SD 4x4 if I wanted a soft ride. That's a long story you don't want to hear). Since buying the IAS is cheaper than a new F-150, I would buy them if I thought there would be a significant ride improvement over the Bilsteins. Any thoughts (that are not too unkind)?

Just a guess but I think your going to get the same ride out of the Edelbrocks. If you want softer go back to OEM stock? Whatever they are.

Craig, you could try Rancho RS9000's. They have 5 stiffness (or lack thereof) settings.
The catch is that you have to set the shock fairly stiff (4 or a 5 setting) to dampen a stiff spring. Otherwise when you go over a kind of big bump the spring will rebound a few times before the shock dampens the spring.
Also, BF Goodrich makes a rear replacement shackle called 'velvet ride'which is suppose to help smooth out the ride. I think the rear spring is where most of the stiff ride comes from in the Super Duty's. I've only test driven one so...
Look at some ads from Desert Rat or 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers in a 4WD mag. Every once in
awhile Rancho has a buy 3 get 1 free promo
for their shocks.

The Edelbrocks do ride pretty soft - almost as soft as the stockers when they are new. In fact, I wish the Edlebrocks had more rebound dampening because you still get a bit of that unweighting feeling when you hit a series of bumps with the truck unloaded. The ride is anything but harsh with the IAS shocks. The main benefit of the IAS is less body roll during cornering.
