Did you change your bump stops to shorter ones? Did you change your shocks to "drop shocks"?

Hi Sport2000, Yes, the drop shocks came with the kit and I did install some slightly shorter bump stops. Everything was torque to exact specs. By the way thank you much for the inputs.

MIF150-you may want to check your exhaust. With your suspension dropped, your pipes that go over the axle are probably REAL close to it now.So even a small bounce will make the pipes touch. My truck's not lowered, but I had a similar problem when I installed my Flowmaster cat-back.I was able to adjust my pipes before I tightened everything up.Too high and they rubbed the bottom of the bed as I bounced on the bed.Too low and they would hit my axle. They had to be just right. With your suspension lowered your window just got smaller.Check it out.

KnightS, thanks for the tip. I checked that and the pipe was rebend just for the lowering, and it right at center now.
A word of thanks to you all who had replied to my problem and others too. You guys are the ones who contribute and made this site the greatest. Thank you. steve

Talking Ground Force kit installed, bottoming problem

Hi all, took me a while to install the 2/4 lowering kit since I couldn't sell it, got the degree wedge kit installed also.
Looks great, now the problem is why is the darn thing sound like bottoming out after going through a slight dip or bounce? Anyone with their lowered F-150 got this problem? It took me two full days to installed it because of the darn rivets on the hangers. And now it's seems like I want to take it off and put the original hangers back.
Any inputs is appreciated. steve

List of possibilities:
1. Are your airbags bottoming?
2. Does it still bottom out when you put more air in your bags?
3. Are there marks on your bumpstops and/or axle tubes from bottoming out?
4. How much shock travel do you have with your truck sitting still?
5. Does your rear sway bar still function properly with the truck dropped?
Just some things to check.

MIF-150...

Getting ready to install a Belltech 3/4 inch lowering kit, Belltech Nitro drop shocks, thicker Belltech front sway bar, and add a Belltech rear sway bar. Will post a thread and before/after photos when the job is complete. I hope I don't experience any problems. I decided on the Belltech kit after seeing how nice it looked on a 98 XLT Supercab Flareside STX in the Oct 99 issue of "Sport Truck" magazine.

Sport2000, I saw the same article and that's what got me up early in the morning and decided to do it. Half way through the job I was wondering to myself "What did I get myself into?",if you're going to do it yourself don't forget to make sure you have the grinder and air hammer and chisel, it's a must have! Wear ear and eye protection also my ears are still ringing after three days now. Good luck! steve

HotRodSix if you're out there, I like to know how you like your drop kit and did you had any problem with it like bottoming out or metal to metal contact or of sort? If possible how thick (tall)is your bump stop?
Thanks. steve

Cool

Hi MIF-150, I have the Ground Force 2-4 drop and it also bottoms out a little on the dips. I installed the shocks that came with the kit and when I pull my small boat it will really bottoms on a big bump. I think I will probably install some type of air bag and compressor to adjust my ride height when the boat is hooked up. I do like the "look" of a lowered F150 and recently rode in a Roush lowered Lightning with the Roush shocks and it to bottomed out on the dips. So I would say that you did your install correctly and we just have to get used to bottoning out occasionally. Good luck!

Flats man, I wished I would had known or seen post about this problem before doing the drop. I would had never done it. It's a very skirmish feeling everytime you hear that thump. I already had the airbag installed and no help at all at any pressure.
I just can't believe no one had ever mentioned this before at all until now.
I might just bolt the factory hangers back on and called it a day. Since the rivets are out now it will only takes a couple of hours to restore the factory height. I don't think I can live with the bottoming out thing.
Sooner or later something will break or tear if this is not taken care of.
Thanks for the reply, Flats Man.

Cool

Thanks to every members for their replies, inputs and helps. I had finally solved the problem this afternoon. One airbag was defective and the thumping noise was coming from the inside of the right bag.
It had took me 6 hours to locate it, I even went to Midas to reweld one pipe because it looks like the culpit(kind of low to the differential)but still noise when coming back. I was under the truck and my wife hop on it and I heard the noise from inside the bag and the inside disc plate was loose.
It's not easy as before to get under the truck anymore, must use hydro jack now.
Thank you all. steve
