steering wander
I think you're talking about a steering stabalizer. Those are to keep your tires from moving back and fourth while 4wheeling. You have what sounds like wandering tires. I think changing the brand or model tire might help.

While driving on almost any road i've noticed that i have to chase the steering slightly, almost like understeer. I have heard that mounting a shock on the steering rack will help? This is not severe but just a nuisance.

Well if you have a 93 like your nick suggests and you do much off roading better check that U-joint on the stearing column, tie rod ends and ball joints.
By the way how are your tires wearing?
I had a 90 before I totalled it and changed all of the above and I-beam bushings except for the u-joint at 75,000 miles all needed changed in the worst kind of way. Although it had 33's and went out in the woods every weekend and was beat to death!

a steering stabilizer will reduce your steering wheel jerking around when your front tires hit bumps, or water. That is when one wheel hits first, then the other, usually your steering jerks around, the bar reduces that. I had one in my jeep commanche...let me tell yah, when one tire hits a deep rut of water, by the time the back tire on the same side hits it, the entire vehicle would slide over a couple inches..that was scary!

You may also want to have your alignment checked. My friend with a '94 claims it drives much better (less wander on the highway) with the caster set at the maximum allowed in the specs. You'll have to ask the alignment shop to set it up this way.
Tires (10.5x31)are rotated every 5k miles wear is normal. I have the 8.8 rearend and recently it gernaded. I went to a rearend parts house/garage and there were a couple dead units in the dumpster. I'm guessing that its not a real choice setup. Anyway I'm looking into moding the E4od trans I do some towing and it works fine for that but running empty I don't like the shifting. Baumann engineering is spouting great things ever heard anything regarding them.
