Post Decided not to drop

Thanks to all the members who replied to my other post about the procedure on lowering the truck. BUT! now found out my customized rear dual exhaust must be completely custom bent again due to the 4" rear drop. So I am giving up the lowering project completely.
Anyone interested on the brand new 2/4 Ground Force drop kit w/shocks for 300.00 let me know. I paid 450.00. steve

MIF-150,
Will the kit fit a 99-150? If so, I might be interested in it.

Fordman99, yes it will fit 99 also. Sorry it took so long to reply since one of our member here threw me a virus that knock my computer down for two weeks.

MIF-150,
That's great to know that the kit will fit 99. But, I'm still debating the issue. I will know by the end of this week with what I am going to do.

mif-150,
how do you have your pipes bent ? i have been thinking about dropping my truck. i did have my pipes custom bent. i had mine turned up. the chrome tips are sticking out about 2 inches. you can barely see them, but you can hear them. after i read your post,i went and took a look. my pipes are passing about 2 inches underneth each shackle. is this going to be a problem for me ??

spydog, the problem I'm going to have if I lower it is the right pipe that is bent like a U shape that goes over the axle which is about 4" clearance now. If I lower the rear suspension 4" the pipe will hit the bed everytime I hit a bump. It will cost me almost 400.00 to redo the whole welded exhaust system. steve

MIF dont sell it just have your pipes come out in front of the rear tire, thats what i have and it looks and sounds awesome. Besides you'll be SSOOOOOO pleased when you lower it, it looks fantastic and it handles great in the mountains (turns), throw a sway bar kit on to boot.

cableguy, maybe you're right I think I'll keep it. The next thing is if I lowered it it will look kinda funny with the Smittybilt grille guard, don't you think? This is what you get for not planning ahead!
cableguy, did you had any problems with the wheel alignment or any front end problem afterward? Did you had the degree wedge kit for the axle installed also? I still got the spring compressor loaner tool from Autozone and the air chisel and really itching to start on it after I get the exhaust system remodified. If anyone interested I'll most likely sell the edelbrock isa shocks also pretty soon. Thanks, cableguy.

Nope, no problems with the front end or alignment what so ever. I didn't use a compression tool for the springs, just a floor jack and extreme care and patient. The front was SO easy, took all of about 20-30 min. per side. The rear was the major hassle with the hangers, damn... have to give ford credit for their rivet installation process because man that took hrs to get them off...an air chisel...exactly what would have cut the time down. The shackles, no problem at all. But if you read in the instructions "raise up your rear via the pumpkin, take off the lower shock mounts, lower your truck and then take out bolts holding your shackles" STOP! or you will send your springs right through the bed and possibly cause you extreme disabling injuries or death! Raise your truck from the hitch or other body part, ie bumper with a floor jack untill all weight is off the spring mounts at the shackles. Then as you loosen the retaining bolt at the shackle you will note play...then you know the weight is off and its save. Make sure you have floor stands under the frame...and if you need more play or less...carefully raise or lower your jack.
The grill? well that is what is so great about customizing our personal rigs. Its an expression of our OWN personal taste. You may like it and someone else not. Leave it on or take it off. Take my opinon for what it is worth or throw it out the door. But I feel a "sport" truck is exactly that. It is a truck that looks and acts like a "Sports Car" only with a very large trunk. Too me its all about sleek lines, smooth and clean, uncluttered. I have gone as far as taking off the door guards, the "sport" logo that was on the bed sides. And this winter plan on fliping the tailgate latch, roll pan, and take off the "plastic" bed rails to have the rails finished smooth, then add a flush tonneau hard shell.
Again take it or leave it, thats MY personal taste. Good luck! Talk with ya later.
P.S. yes I used the wedges that came with the kit. Not neccessary if you use just the shackles, but if you also do the hangers then use them.
