Factory Torsion Bar Settings?

I have a 1999 F150 4X4, Super Cab, Auto trans, 5.4L, 'Off Road' Edition, 17" wheels.
Question:
What is the factory setting/measurement of the front torsion bars and also what is the min. and max. that they can be adjusted?
Problem: (truck) seems to sit a little 'low' at the nose.
I just want to crank up the bars enough to get the truck level. I don't want to replace the OEM bars yet.
Any suggestions?

I torqued mine up a full 1 3/4 inches over stock - enough that the front end was sitting higher than the rear. I ended up taking them back down to 1 inch over stock. Now the truck sits pretty level.

There have been some posts concerning the long term effects of this adjustment but I think it won't hurt anything. My theory is that when Ford built the truck they gave the torsion bars some adjustment room and far be it from me not to use it.

Concerning the factory settings. I wrote them down before the adjustment but can't find the stinking piece of paper. I was thinking it was around 35". The bolt was adjusted about half way in before I started tweaking it though. Now, after the new tires I measure 38" to the bottom of the factory wheel well mouldings.

I say crank 'em! The 4x4's look so much better level. Good luck!

It would be a good idea to check your front end alignment after you adjust your torsion bars. You are changing the front end settings by doing this. Experience is a good teacher.

I took mine to the local BIG O tire shop, they put it up on the alignment rack and cranked up the bars checking the alignment as they went, now my front end sits a bit higher than the rear and it drives a little rougher.

Unhappy

I can't believe none of you have a service manual that you can share with ALL of us.
Please look it up for me fellow F150 owners.

Talking

I have a 99 to and I cranked mine up it makes the truck look great people ask my if I have a lift. I talk to ford before I did mine and they said that they all come in at the very low as they will go and the crank them up that is way some new trucks sit higher than others. they said that hey crank them up if you plan to put a plow on the front of your tuuck. I have 15K on mine and no problems...

Bill,
I checked chiltons and hayes. no settings in there. It just says to mark before adjusting. it also says if you get them off just measure the frame height on both sides and make sure they are the same. The adjuster bolt should be a little more than half exposed. that's how mine is at stock. I think off a turn or two won't hurt you as long as both sides are the same. (check tire air before measuring) good luck
