Angry HELP with performance acc. 3" body lift

I just finished, ok, almost finished the install of a performance acc. 3" body lift. I have a question, were the heck is the adjustment under the dash for the shift indicator. Also, after installing the front bumper with the brackets, it leans forwards, any suggestions? I have a few comments about the lift:
<ol>[*]I had to modifiy the trany linkage bracket to work with the stock bracket. I don't think it was made right.[*]The torex head bolts in the bed are 50 NOT 47. I found out AFTER I stripped them and had to square them off to remove them[*]Make sure you have a drill to drill through the frame to move the rear bumper and cable saftey mounts.[/list=a]
I also have another question, after lifting, you can see the frame from the front. Any suggestions for a skirt or any thing to cover that in the front? Other then the few items I had problems with, the kit was good. I liked the directions! Please help me with my few questions.

I had the same problem with the front bumper tilting forward. I simply installed a large washer between the lower bolts and the frame. As for the shift indicator, you will see a cable leading up to your instrument panel about 7 inches up your steering column where you installed the steering extention. There is a black plastic wheel at the end of this cable. You probably need a flashlight but it is easily reachable.

Ok I was thinking of getting that lift kit, but I'm not sure if I can install it. I put all other mods on myself, and just did the exhaust myself, but all this talk about tranny and other wires and all this other stuff you gotta fix makes it sound hard. Do you really have to know your stuff when you install this kit or what? I can't find any shop around here that will do it. Also, how long did it take you?

I am a 20 year old college student and I am majoring in Computer Science. If that tells you anything. It took me 10 hours by myself, if you have common sense you can do it. The instructions are really good, and if you have any problems you can write the board like I did, by the way, thanks. Drilling in the frame was the only thing I couldn't do, but for $20 a body shop in town did it for me! Nobody wants to touch body lifts, they might for shop time, which 10 hours of $60/hour is pretty expensive! Good Luck!

Like stated in other posts, the ride is not much different, just a change in the center of gravity on turns. I am going to get 35x12.5 BFG Mud Terrians, and I am trying to make up my mind on wheels yet, so many choices! I like the look already, can't wait for tires and wheels though! I only have one problem with the tranny. When it the lever is in park, the tranny is between Reverse and Park, so I have to start it in netural. The adj. wheel is turned as far as it will go. Any suggestions Squanto804????? Z71KILLER, are keeping your ORP wheels? I hate to but large 17" tires are hard to find and expensive. Squanto804, how much did you pay for those tires?

If I remember right, they were about $135. I wanted to go with BFG but the Wild Country was the only tires Icould get locally that had road hazard. They have worked fine, with no problems.

As for your shifting problem. First you need to go under the truck and find the "Transmision Range Sensor" which is on the drivers side next to the trans fluid pan.(its black with a bunch of wire plugged into one end). Disconnect the shift cable at the trans. Now loosen the sensors retaining bolt. Now move it slightly till the reverse lights come on. Once this is done, tighten the retaining bolt and reattach the shift cable. Now move up to the cab and make adjustments with the thumbwheel. Its best to move the shift all the way clockwise(which should be first) then move it back 2 detent positions, which should be close to "D". Now use the thumbwheel and take any slack out of the indicator cable and adjust the indicator till its centered. that should fix you up. IT's a bit long, sorry.

I did that to get to were it is now. After I was done with the lift, I could only reach D-2-1, and they showed as R-N-D. After adjusting the sensor, I was able to get all gears yet it showed wrong, after adj. the wheel, they all showed right excpect park. So let me get this straight, show I place the shifter in park and move the senosr all the way towards the engine? Then move the shifter to first, back to D, then adj the wheel? I will have to try it and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the help!

It does not matter where you put the shifter because you should have unhooked the shifter cable at the trans. Move the sensor till the backup lights come on,and that should do it for the sensor and reattach the cable. Now move the shifter all the way to the right (clockwise) then move it 2 clicks back,Should be on D. Adjust the wheel. you should get everything now. Makes a big difference that you get the adjustment at the sensor right.

That is weird. I have the 5.4l and I did not have any probems with the tranny. I did not even have to use the relocation bracket that came with the truck. I talked to Performance Accessories and they said with the 5.4l you don't need to use it. Maybe that is the problem. If you put the relocation bracket in and you don't need it that could be throwing things off.

I was looking at the pictures you had. Did you buy something to fill in the gaps created by the body lift? If so how much were they and where did you get them?

G Patricio
When did you get the new wheels and tires? Why did you get rid of the Weld's and the Ground Hawgs?

smill,

I changed tires and wheels about 3 months ago. Actually I still have the wheels and am waiting for the classified pages to work so I can post them. I changed over to narrower, (9.75) wheels and 35's until I can customize an additional 1 inch body lift. Then I will mount 38 inch Super Swampers or Mickey Thompsons. Tires this high will not clear with the 12" wide Welds.

I think I saw the wheels on FTE for sale. I wish I had known you were going to get the 9.75's. We could have worked something out for the Center Line's and BFG Mud Terrains I have. Do you have the Ground Hawgs for sale? If so I am interested.

BigRedF150
Hope it works out for you. Let us know how it turns out.
