Help! 92 F150 lower ball joints
I have a 92 F150 2wd , needs lower ball joints. Chiltons` is very vague on the subject.
To remove the spindle , do i need to remove the camber adapter to get it off? How does the camber adapter come off? Also , it looks like the lower ball joint is pressed into the spindle?! It then bolts to the I beam? WTF? Chiltons` shows the lower ball joint as being on the beam? The truck is in need of a camber adjustment , there are special adapters available.. must i install a different one other than the one that is on there now? My wheels sit like this / \ .
PLEASE HELP!!
Thanks to all who reply!!

Both ball joints are located on the spindle..the lower one will come out , but the upper appears to be non serviceable.. there is no retaining clip .will it come out of the spindle?

Since this is on a 92 and since you have such bad camber my guess is that you have some sagged coils. This is a typical problem. Its only fixed by either putting in coil spacers, getting new coils, or trying to find some cams to make up the difference but if they're sagged too much you might not find any. Gotta love the good ol TTB.
Thank you again , powerstroke73. I will replace the springs , not a big fan of spacers, did that on wifes` ride , and now a little stiff suspension wise.So the camber adapters should be fine , the upper ball joints feel tight , the lowers are a little play. The lowers are pressed into the spindle , opposite of what chiltons` shows? Spindle must be removed by loosening the top and bottom ,and the steering link , then use a BFH with a piece of wood to pop the spindle loose , does this sound right?

Anybody out there?
Is it ok to remove the spindles by first undoing the steering linkage , then loosen the upper ball joint that the camber adapter slides into , then loosen the lower ball joint nut to the top of the thread , and hit it downward with a hammer ? Will it drop out this way?
Please reply!!
Any and all replies greatly appreciated!!

I realize that this started a year ago, but I just joined this and there may be other new members that need to do the ball joints. If you do it, hit autozone, autoworks Napa or wherever, and get the upper and lower ball joints. did my '93 last november and it took about 3 hours of work. "rent" the press from autozone if you can, it works slicker than cow slobber as my wife would say. Buy and keep a Haynes manual, you'll never regret it. jack the front end up and remove tires, and place on jackstands. remove the brake calipers and wire to the frame out of the way, and to avoid damage to them.
follow the Haynes steps and with the press you can easily pop the old out and the new in. I am anything but a mechanic, and i found this to be real easy. Now I have to do the tie rod ends, another learning experience!
