I have been thinking about adding a BellTech kit to my 98 XLT, I can't decide between 3/4 or 2/4. I don't want a "Slammed" truck but I really hate the gap between the tires and the fenders. I don't tow anything at all, this is a play toy, not a work toy. Which would you folks recommend?
Thanks
Randy

FrankS: Thanks for the suggestion, is there any particular reason for that suggestion or is your own particular opinion. Also, I was wondering what does it take to install one of the kits, I have no mechanical ability what so ever so if it is easy, and I mean real easy, I was thinking about it if not, what kind of places do this kind of work.
Thanks for all your help

forgeur,
I have the 3/4 Bell Tech drop on mine and I like it. There is a guy around my area that got the 2/4 and the one inch in the front on mine makes a big difference. You wouldn't think it would but it does. My truck is on the reader's ride page if you want to check it out. See below.

Hey Guys,
I've spoke on this subject a few times. I purchased mine through AIM industries out of a magizine and over the internet. I got what they refer to as a 2"/4" but it turned out to be 3"/4" (did'nt mind though the extra inch does make a much better apperance). The rear shackles took only about an hour, as far as the hangers (what a *^%&^%), that took about 4 hours. You have to drill (starting small and then gain in size, don't over size the last one though), then grind it flush, and beat the geebers out of the hangers to get them off. Raising and lowering the jack VERY carefully poped it off near the end (big help). The front coils only took about a 1/2 hr. each, no problems. Its a fabulous look, maintains the same ride characteristics. The total cost was right around $300 includes shocks, zerts, bump stops, shackles, hangers, and coils. AIM was very helpful, there directions are a little decieving though. DO NOT lower raise and lower from the pumpkin or you'll send the springs right through the bed, instead I raised and lowered from the hitch. had to lift it extremely high to take the weight off the springs, when trying to release from the shackles.
Good Luck to ya. take a look at my web site and links for pic.'s.

Cableguy,
Truck looks great!! I love the new Ford's lowered. I think the bodystyle really calls for an change in altitude. I can't believe when I look back at pictures of my truck when I first got it. It looks like a 4x4.

What suggestions are there on a 2/4 inch drop without shocks? I'm considering Edelbrocks for the handling and the smoother ride. Also, I'm not prepared to do the drop myself (as I'm technically incompetent to handle that...the Airaid and the Superchip is the limit of my mechanical inclinations). Any suggestions on best way to find quality installers that won't rip me off or bungle the job?

I have a Belltech 2-4 drop kit in my truck. When the job was done, the actual change in height was 3 inches in front and about 4-1/2 inches in the rear. I have the Belltech ‘Nitro’ shocks installed also. These shocks are shorter and better suited for the ride height change. If you leave the stock shocks on - the piston in the shock will be in a part of the tube it was not designed for. The stock shocks may work for a short time but they should be replaced. The ride after the drop is about the same as stock but with slightly different characteristics. Where I live, we have many freeways made of concrete. Depending of the temperature of the day, these roads can get very 'washboard' like. My truck actually rides a little smoother over these areas. If however I go over a part of the road that has a dip where it causes the springs to really compress, this is a little harsher than the stock ride. Lastly, I also installed 17-inch wheels with slightly lower profile tires.

Mr. Wizard,
It's a good looking truck. Is it me or is the back slightly lower than the front (depending on if you had anything in the bed when the picture was taken)? My shock concern is exactly what you talked about...too much compression over dips in the road, etc. I'd like a slight drop (for looks), but I like the height of the ride. As you can probably tell...I'm waffling on whether or not to drop my truck. Thanks for the input and the great pic.

Belvadere-
You sound just like I did when I was deciding on whether or not to lower my truck. Mine is a '97 and I just lowered it about three months ago - it took me two years of thinking about it. Now that its done, I'm sorry I waited so long. Actually the truck sits pretty close to dead even. The photo was taken on ground with a slight grade so maybe thats why it looks like the back is lower.
