Biggest Tires,Stock Alum Wheels,on 2000 4x4
Need some insight as to the biggest tire (brand & size) will fit on my shop foremans 2000 4x4. He has the factory rims (17"). Doesn't want any lift kit or rubbing when turning. Thanks guys for your help!!
This months issue of four Wheeler has a tire fitment reference guid in it if you are interested in looking at it. It also has chrat with the RMP vs, Gear Ration chart on the page after the fitment guide. With a 4X4 you sould be able to fit 31X10.5 without any modifications. If you want to just do minor fender trimming you can run 32X11.5. Anything bigger than that and you need lift and trimming.
Of course he can fit a 31x10.50-17, the truck came with 32x10.50's(265/70-17). You should be able to fit a 33x12.50-17, 285/70-17(33x11.50) or 305/70-17(34x12.50) on the stock 17x7.5 inch rims without any problem. If there is any minor rubbing it will be on the front bumper's, lower plastic valance and it is easily trimmed.
We are talking 17 inch tires, right? A 265/70-17 is around 31 3/4 inches tall according to all the manufacturers charts that I've seen. Keep in mind that this height is measured on an unmounted tire. Mount it and place the weight of a 4000 to 5000 pound truck on it and it will not measure this tall. Now a 265/70-16 would be around 30 3/4 inches tall. Also, all the tire manufactures round the sizes up. This is why a 33x12.50-15 is really only around 32 1/2 or 32 3/4 inches tall and so forth.
I think that Boss can run 33X12.5, I was justposting what a reputable Magazine was publishing. I do how ever thinkn that if you run 33's that you might have to worry about the tire rubbing on a hard imact/bump.
