7700# suspension on a '98 ORP

OK, I searched the forum this time and did not find anything on this.

What would it take to upgrade my '98 F150 ORP suspension to the 7700# package's specs (or better yet an acutal SD suspension)? I just mean the suspension not the rear diffy or tranny. Is it just a spring and shock swap, or do the torsion bars ahve to be replaced? Will the parts even fit under a flareside (I notice Ford removes the flareside if you want the 7700# package). Should I go Ford or aftermarket, and can anyone recommend such an aftermarket source?

Thanks in advance.

Why not save yourself some headaches and put some airbags in the rear or some Timbrens?

Cool

The rear springs are on a 7700 have, I think, 1500lb (each) more capacity than a reg 150. I'm not sure if they will bolt on or not. The front torsion bars have a larger diameter and are longer. Keep in mind that no matter what you do to beef up the suspension your GVWR and GAWR's won't change.

Going to a 7700lb suspension isn't worth the expense and hassle for what you get. The best way to do a suspension upgrade to handle loads better is a set of air bags. There is also no way to adapt a SD suspension to an F150 without MAJOR surgery. The SD uses a leaf sprung solid front axle which is dramatically different from an SLA setup which the F150 uses. There is NO way to adapt leaves to a torsion bar setup. The only way to put this suspension under your truck is to get a set of axles from a Sd and then adapt the SD suspension to go under your truck, but you're talking $3000+ to do this swap.

I have the 7700 payload pkg on my 2001 King Ranch. It Includes heavier duty springs, as well as a different frame.
I really don't think you will easily be able to recreate this, but what is the point.
If you want a larger payload capacity, this can be easily achieved with stiffer springs and shocks with a stiffer rebound rate to match your new spring rate. In the front, you can either crank or replace your Torsion rods. If you have a 2wd you can get stiffer springs and shocks also.
If you would like, I woould part with my payload package for right around 45G and I will even throw in the rest of the rig too

Weezell...where did you find a 7700 Supercrew? Let alone with the King Ranch stuff?

at the dealer, it came with the 7700 payload pkg . Just how it is.

I actually have a 4"lift I don't really load it down. the Payload pkg was more to get the stiffer frame. All that really goes in the bad is dirt bikesx2 gear, surfboards, my dog or girlfriends with a bad 'tude dood.

Weezell,

I don't necessarily want to "recreate" the 7700, but basically beef up the suspension I have. Not really for payload, but to take more of a beating than the stock Ford suspension. Basically I wondered if the suspension parts from the 7700 or SD's would do the trick. Apparently the SD is out. I guess I need to go aftermarket and replace the springs, shocks, etc.
