Question What shocks...other than stock?

I hardly do any off-roading. Looking for a shock that will reduce body roll, but don't want anything too stiff. I was thinking about the Rancho RSX...is that more for off-roading? Would the RS5000 be better for my application. They'll be going on a 2000 4x4 orp.

thanks in advance

Can't really help because I am trying to make the same choice right now. I'm considering the RS5000 and the Monroe Reflex. The best price I have found on the RS5000 is $36.99 at Jeg's. The Monroe Reflex is $46.99 at Napa on-line with buy 3 get one free.

There are a couple of good threads on this subject if you search for them.

What tires are you planning to run?

Mike

I'm getting to run 305/70R16 Pro-Comp AT's. I've read every thread on here about shocks, but I haven't found anything that states what shocks are good for on-road, off-road, etc.

I have a thread in the SuperCrew section asking the same question. WhiskyTango gave a good response, check it out. The thread is called "What Shocks?"

Do you do a lot of towing or haul leavy loads every once in a while? You may like the adjustability of Rancho RS9000x. Someone had an interesting idea of using RSX up front and RS9000x in the back. See this thread for details.

If you dont do much hard off roading or hardly any at all I know a few good shocks for you. To get the most of your dollar in the mild offroad shock division a good choice would be Rancho Rs 5000's. But if your truck is driven on road 90% of the time a very reasonable shock in all around value and performance is the Gabriel Heavy Duty Gas Rider shocks from your local auto parts store. I was broke several years ago and decided I would do my research and turned up nothing cheap. Went to autozone and found these shocks for either $19.99 a set or 29.99. Cant remember, but they also came with a lifetime warranty that replaced the shocks for the life of the vehical. NOT BAD! I used them and did much rough offroading and was very satisfied with the performance. If your on a budget... Gabriel. Or no budget at all go with the acclaimed best, Edelbrock.
Good luck.

I put the Rancho RS5000 on my truck and love them. It stiffened up the ride alot. That is what I was looking for.

You can by 3 Rancho RSX or RS9000 shocks and get the 4th for FREE at www.summitracing.com. Something to think about

Good Luck!

I bought mine from Advance Auto for about $35 a piece. Summit has the RS5000 for $37.95 and the RSX is $50.99 each, the RS9000 are $82.95.

The "HOT SET-UP" in my opinion is go with "soft" shocks and get a rear (anti)
swaybar. The swaybar will do more for body roll than a shock ever can. Some companies make matched sets of front and back. But if you don't envision yourself as "JOE ROADRACER" then the rear should be more than adequate from the posts I've read.
