Just curious as why Ford puts a cooler on the power steering pumps?

Ummm, I'm gonna step out on a limb here and say to help keep the fluid cooler??? Just kidding. P/S fluid get's just as warm as anything else. Doesn't hurt to keep it cool.

I understand that Galaxy, but why start doing it on 97s?Why not before then?Is it part of the towing package?I have the tranny cooler also, factory. And I have the "REESE" type hitch installed too, factory.Does all this mean I have the towing package?

A lot of earlier fords had coolers for the power steering fluid but they were usually mounted under the hood on the power steering pump and near the fan as opposed to the location in front of the radiator and AC condensor as they are now.

Also remember that the entire power steering system holds very little fluid when compared to the amount of oil, antifreeze, and trans fluid so it will load up with heat more quickly.
