Question Question on shock life expectancy

I am still debating on which brand and type of shock to get for my 2wd truck. I still have the stock shocks on with 30,000 miles. They don’t seem too bad but I have heard and read here that a good brand shock would greatly improve my ride comfort.

It is between the Edelbrock performance IAS and Rancho RS9000, or RSX’s. My question is under regular driving conditions, no off roading, how long should I expect any of the above shocks to last as far as miles?

I put Edlebrock's on my 2000 SD and I LOVE them!! They are incredible shocks! I am so impressed with them, that I am always going to have these shocks on my trucks! I put them on my SD and then drove across country! (From Rapid City, SD to Cape Cod, MA.) These are sweet! I HIGHLY recommend them! I just can't give them enough accolades!

As shocks age, they usually go bad very gradually, so it is hard to notice how much they have lost. In my opinion and experience, low quality shocks (like OEM on our trucks) will degrade substantially by 20,000 - 30,000 miles.

A good quality shock at 100,000 miles will probably still be vastly better than than the stockers were brand new. I now have 55,000 miles on my Edelbrocks and they don't feel quite the same as they did when they were new. I'll probably see how they feel at 75,000 miles or so before I consider chaging them.

Make the change - you will be glad you did. I changed my stock shocks at 11,000 miles. Besides the price, no regrets at all.

Thanks for the information. I figurered brand shocks would be better then stock. Just didnt know how long they would last compared to price. So $70 bucks or so is not bad, even if its 50,000 miles. I just didnt want to spend that kind of money for something that would only last say 20 - 30,000 miles.

Edelbrocks's . I changed mine at 8,000 miles and couldn't believe the difference. Should be first mod. Did I mention how much I love the Edelbrocks. I have had Racho RS5000, and Explorer Pro Comp 9000 on different trucks and would take these over the two of those put together in one shock.

I have Fabtech's up front and Rancho 9000's in the rear. The benefit of the 9000's is the adjustability. If you carry various loads alot, you might like them. JMO
