Question Torsion Bar Unloading Tool

Ok guys, I have my new Rancho 4" suspension kit sitting in the shed ready to go on if it ever stops raining. After looking over the instructions I have noticed that its telling me to aquire a tortion bar unloading tool # T95T-5310-A
and tortion bar tool adapters # T96T-5310-A.
Are these tools nessary or can I mark the current location of the adjuster bolt as they tell me to do and unscrew the bolts? I am having a tough time locating these tools so any help would be appricated. Gordon

Toddyman,

Can't help on those torsion bar tools but would like to hear your thoughts on the Rancho kit after you get it installed. Things like quality of directions, ease of installation, and post-install behavior are always appreciated. Look forward to seeing how it goes and good luck!

Mike

these tools are dealer only tools, just a threaded screw and adapters for explorer or f150 style bars, i work at a dealer and i dont even use then though. what i usually due is get a 2 jaw puller, put the jaws on the crossmember and run the threads up till it touches (make sure the jaws are secured and wont slip either the style with the pinch bolt or?)
once it makes contact remove the adjusting bolt and plate that it threads into and then unthread the puller, make sure the susp is in full extension to minimize the load on the tool, if you have a good puller this usually feels safer to me than using the ford tool (kinda sloppy)

Thats really good info, that never even crossed my mind! When you say suspension at full extension is that with both front tires off the ground with the frame up on jack stands? It makes good sense and I sure appricate the info! Gordon

Guys I need help fast. I have a 2001 Ford F-150 Supercab with the 4X4 package. I jut bought a set of 33 X 12.5 inch BF Goodrich Mud Terrains and need to level out the front of the truck to get rid of some rubbing. I have heard before about adjusting the torsion bars to get and inch or two. Is this possible and for a primary street driver is this a good idea. How can I do it. I have access to alot of tools, and I have alot of know how on lifting jeeps with solid front axles, but not independent from suspensions. Please help me out. I really apprectiate and ideas.

glad to help toddy,
that is what I mean by full extension
furious ford, follow the torsion bars back to there rear mounting position, there will be a bolt protruding downward, just run the bolt up as far as needed--measure both sides afterward and make sure the frt is level side to side
then it would be a good idea to have your alignment checked because it can effect camber
