Question To Lower Or Not To Lower?

I've just bought a '03 Super Crew and am wondering about lowering. Any advice or opinions are welcome. I was thinking about a 2-2 drop, but I will be towing a trailer with a race car on the weekends. Will 2" in the rear be too much when I hook up the trailer? Will it present any towing problems ? Using shackels should not effect the spring rate would it ? Also, to get 2" out of the front, can it be done with springs only , or are there other suspension mods that have to be made? (A frames or shocks?) Forgive my ignorance, but I have just came over from the dark side (CHEVY). I want to stay with the factory 17" alloys for cost reasons, so that needs to be figured into the lowering equasion.

Thanks in advance for opinions and advice.

Well if you are towing a racecar I am not sure what the weight of your car and trailer is going to be but even if its around 4-5klbs then I would definatly recomend either an air bag setup or at the very least some nice air shocks that you can pump up to help with the load since you are altering the suspension for its stock strength.
And on these trucks a 2-2 drop is not very much as far as appreance goes, its alot different then Chevy in the you need to go with atleast a 3-4 if not a 4-5 to get the lowered look. To put these on the ground is like a 7-14 and thats the old "c" knoch gig which I would definatly not do if you are towing-

To me it seems as if using the original leaf springs with lowered shackels would not compromise the weight carrying capabilities. The spring rate would be the same, only the mounting point would change.

You hit the nail on the head, rear shackels will not affect the spring rate or your towing ability.
