Question Automatic Headlight Sensor

Do any of you know where the sensor is for the automatic headlights (2002 F-150 SuperCrew Lariat)? I'd like to cover the sensor if possible so my lights are on all the time.

There is a postage stamp sized square in the middle of the dash. It has slots.

p.s. There is an adjustment screw under the dash, you could try turning it all the way up if you get tired of looking at that duct tape.

Why not just get teh DRL kit installed? DRLs are a much better option because it leaves your dashlights (radio, compass, etc) at full power during the day and only activates the headlamps at reduced power.

Alright, how do I remove the panel on top of the dash where the "grille" is for the sensor?

Just slip a screw driver under the "banana" insert. There are about a half dozen clips holding it... should be no problem.

Careful with the adjusting screw. It's both sensitive and flimsy. Just give it a gentle quarter turn and try it there. <sorry, I can't remember which way to turn it for increased/decreased light sensitivity>

Good luck

I now have lights on full-time. I just put black electrical tape over the sensor.

I have to know why you want all your lights on all the time. You are not the first peron I have heard doing this...but the first one I have thought to ask. What, exactly, does it accomplish that a DRL kit wouldn't?

With the insane drivers here and the many dark roads, I want people to be able to see me better since my truck is black. I chose this method over a DRL kit simply because I'm cheap and it didn't cost a dime.

Why do you like DRL kits so much?

I don't, in fact I don't have one installed (I might, its only two parts). Its just a better alternative than running all your lights all the time.

When you run your lights all the time, you will have to replace tail and headlamps sooner. Additionally, it dims the ****pit lights (radio, odo, direction, temp, etc) to a lower light level and makes them harder to see in daylight. The DRLs were designed specifically for what you want... improved visibility in daylight, but offer the bonus of reduced maintence on your vehicle.

I never have been the shortcut kind of guy I guess - its a personal thing.

That is one of the words that vBulliten code looks for.
Once activated, it will match any part of a word that contains the improper usage verbage.

That was a correct use of the word, but automation called it a no-no.

Sorry that's life....

I'm able to see all lights inside the cabin just fine. Replacing the lights sooner is not an issue -- they're not that expensive.

Talking

I didn't get a rear slider but, I still wanted some fresh air behind me so I just punched my fist through the rear glass.

SeaDooHHI, you got any of that black electrical tape left?
(oh, and something to stop the bleeding)
