Break in miles... Mobil 1
This topic is like religion in that everybody seems to have their own beliefs. I found the following link to be more informative than most:
http://www.performanceoiltechnology....ngtoamsoil.htm
Amsoil used to have a similar discussion on their website, which also recommended using conventional motor oils until the first motor oil change specified by the manufacturer. Here is an old link to such an article on a mirrored site:

Now, however, on their company website they just recommend converting to synthetic immediately. One wonders whether this is a move to sell more motor oil or whether it really doesn't make any difference.
There are many autos, like the Chevrolet Corvette and foreign sports cars, for instance, which come from the factory with Mobil 1 in the crankcase. Obviously they don't worry about switching too early.
I have always switched my vehicles over to synthetic on the first oil change, mainly because: 1) I can't believe doing it 3,000 miles earlier would possibly make any measurable difference in engine life or wear, and 2) I'm too lazy to mess with an intermediate oil change when I take possesion of a new vehicle.

I think it depends on where you live. Here in the desert I run M1 10W30 year round, and 15W50 in my boat. I just can't see putting WD40 I mean 5W20 in this truck. Now if I lived in Alaska I would reconsider.
I have used 5w30 Mobil 1 since the first oil change as well. Runs great! I would go ahead and switch.
