Amp question

I would like to get a better sound out of the stock radio and was wondering if a power amp and new speakers would do the trick. My concern is that I have heard that I will get a whine or other noise if I only install an amp.

Hey there,

Well about a year ago, I put a system into my 01 Screw, containing:

- 4 Boston Acoustics 6x8 door speakers
- 1 Polk Audio EX10 10" sub
- 1 Subbox.net SuperCrew 10" sub box
- 1 Kenwood 859 5ch. amp (40x4 + 120mono)

I had the wiring done professionally, and had it wired to the factory stereo. Sounds great, and fills my needs of great sound in the cab, not hearing the 'heartbeat' two blocks away.

I bought most the stuff thru Crutchfield, the amp was on clearance and the sub was as well. All in all it was a hair over $830 (incl. install) In the car audio big picture....pretty reasonable.

No whine at all by the way.

Best of luck.
