Anyone getting their worn steering wheel replaced

I've noticed mine is looking a little ratty too. I've thought about going in to see if they will do something about it but don't think I can part with my baby for very long! Let me know if you get something done... if I get the courage up to risk them saying "we'll need it overnight" and see what they will do for me I'll post.

I had the wheel replaced on an explorer/mountaineer due to the foam beneath the leather becoming loose/deteriorated. The vehicle was just past the time period for the 3/36 but the service writer appealed the warranty issue and Ford honored the replacement under the bumper to bumper. As long as your vehicle is still under the 3/36 or the interior parts are covered in your extended warranty I bet they would cover it. The replacement was a better wheel than OE.
An additional item of note is that they had to order the wheel, so when it came in I took the truck back and it was in and out in the same day.

I curious about the same thing. I have a 2001 with almost 24000 miles on it. The Leather doesn't look to bad, but it's always sticky. The grime builds up quickly. I've complained to the dealer, and they cleaned it, but it continues to be sticky and get grimy. And before you ask, I work in an office, and don't drive with dirty hands. I continue to clean it with leather cleaner, but within a coule of days, you can see the crime again. To me it seems that the leather it not very good quality. I'm thinking about asking to have the wheel replaced. Anybody else have a sticky steering wheel?

I have 28K on mine and it also looks like new.
On my '96 Bronco with 35K on it I took it in because one of the threads started coming undone on the leather cover on the wheel. I just expected them to re-tie it (it was only 1 thread) but they replaced the whole wheel no questions asked.
I think they liked that because it is a lot of warranty labor due to the airbag.

Mine was all sticky and stuff after 1,000 miles, so I bought a bottle of Armor All Leather Care (brown bottle) and wiped it dwn with a nice thick coat. Good as new. Now I wipe it down once a week or so.
Its good to keep leather soft and clean. Hand oils and dirt will really harm leather.
My old car was a 95 T-Bird with a leather wheel. The leather on the wheel was so "cured" from improper maintence (bought car used) that it was harder than the plastic dash!
