Question Has anyone ever ordered from Tirerack.com?

In the near future I am thinking of ordering some Mud tires for my SCREW and tirerack with shipping is still several hundred dollars cheaper than anyone in my area including Wal-Mart.

My other question is what a tire dealer like discount would charge to put my tires on if I buy them elsewhere???

So if anyone has any experiance with this then please give me some advise.

Oh yea and i'm looking at the Goodyear Wrangler MT/R 285/70R/17.

I got my tire from tirerack back in May. Much cheaper than anyone else. Dealer said the tire was on national backorder until Nov. 2002, but tirerack had plenty in stock. Tire on new truck lost treads and was replaced free under warranty. As for install, Sears, Discount, etc. are all comparable in price.

Checkout the shipping costs though. Might be more than if you bought local. There are Goodyear stores around the local area - Escondido, Rancho Bernardo, etc. They should price match, though unsure if they will price match tirerack. Give it a shot. You'll have to pay tax if you buy local. Run some numbers!

BTW, Discount also price matches. Have them call the tirerack number for price verification.

dcovell-

I just bought a set of the 285/70/17 MTR's from Tirerack. They cost me about $800 delivered to Sacramento. I got Big-O to install them for $60. So far I am very happy with them. Take a look.[IMG][/IMG]

Ordered a set of tires from them last year for my wife's delSol - great pricing, great customer service. After placing the order online, they actually called me and informed me that the size that I had ordered (which is the same size that the Goodyear dealer had installed previously) did not have a high enough load rating for that car. Ended up getting the size they recommended (which was the original factory size) - did not cost me any additional money, either. Overall, with the price of the tires, shipping, and install, it was all still cheaper than buying them locally.

I got some 17" BFG KO's from Costco . They were ten bucks cheaper than Tirerack with no shipping costs . Plus mounting , balancing and road hazard warranty was free . Costco does special orders for most type tires . I had to special order mine .

Matt, thanks a bunch for the pic! I really like the look of those and when I do the torsin bar adjustment up front, it will really look nice. Now what did you do for a spare as the stock 265/70/17 is too small to use as a spare (I would think) did you just look for a cheap 285/70/17 or what? The $800 would suggest that you only got 4 tires.

Also how do you like them so far? Loud anoying, what?

I have heard that they have much better traction but you pay for it with the softer rubber/not lasting as long.

Also I will check out costco, I called walmart and they will order them for $201 each but thats still a lot more than $177 each.

Oh and thanks Mike for the link, missed that when I was on there site.

dcovell,

I don't plan on getting a flat! But if I do I will use the stock spare. If the flat is in the back I will put the stock tire up front and keeping the back the same for gearing. You could probably get away without switching but I would of course advise caution.

They are actually fairly quite for the agressive pattern. Windows up and stereo off = light hum. Stereo on and you don't hear a thing. They do track a bit different than stock. I would compare it to driving on the ripped up asphalt (cordroy pattern), the truck moves around a bit more...like a higher level of sensitivity. Not bad just different.

I can no longer spin the tires when leaving the car wash, these things grip very well. As far as wear goes we will see, mine are brand new.

Let me know if you torque the bars because I am very intersted in doing this as well.

Many have done this, I will make an appointment at my alignment place and then get this done right before that. You should get an alignment after doing this. There are manyyyyyy post about this just do a search. Only on the 4x4s though so no prob for you. Basically you turn the bolt on the end of the torsin bars closest to the middle of the truck (cant remember what way. It will tighten them and cause the front of the truck to raise up. You can get several inches out of this, but the more you do it the stiffer the ride will be in the front. No problems have been mentioned on this board for the many that have done this mod.

I torqued my torsion bars and took it in for an alignment . The only thing they did was torque them back to origional position . So did it again after the alignment . No wear problems on the tires for 20k miles .
