Can anyone recommend better speakers for my 02 Screw Lariat? I dont want to change the stereo or add an amp-just looking for direct replacement speakers that sound better than factory. Thanks---Paul

ALMOST ANYTHING!!!!

From what I have heard, almost anything will sound better. The POLK's seem to be very popular, or any other 5x7,6x8!!!!!

Welp..

I didn't want to break the bank too much after just buying a new truck so I went with Pioneer (6x8's) you can see the specific model number on my signature but I really like them. They had the best response (to my ear) for the price. They were like $65/pair from Best Buy so about $130 for the set. I considered going with component speakers but I didn't want to spend that much or have to head down the mod road too much either...

I also put that Clarion Sub in mine also and with that the sound is now what I want overall. The highs are high and the lows are low with everything in between, not that adequate at best sound from the factory crap...

Funny thing, I took a buddy fishing this weekend and he didn't even know that the sub was a sub but he knew I had something. I was testing to see actually. He really likes the sound quality in my truck too and he's one of those stereo guys that put big $$$ in car stereos...

6x8?

Reelwork- are 6x8's the size for the speakers front and rear? Did you have to modify anything to get these to fit? Thanks again---Paul

Yep and Nope..

Yep, those are the size and they drop right in. Took me about 10 minuites per door and then I put a good amount of Dynomat on there. Take a look at my gallery and you'll see my speaker openings, rather that you don't see a glaring white speaker behind them. With the door panel off, I took some gray lycra that matched my interior and hot glued it to the inside of the panel so that you don't see the speaker. The OEM's have a black cover on them already but it is attached to the speaker itself..

Good Luck,

Aftermarket Speakers...

I too was unhappy with the OEM speakers and ordered replacements from Crutchfield. Great price, all the accessories, and the combination sounds great. See my signature for exact speaker models...definately worth the money and effort.

Talking Got them ordered

Chris- thanks for the reply, I ordered 4 Blaupunkt speakers from Crutchfield and after seeing your gallery with the Clarion sub I ordered that too! I wasnt really looking for a sub,but I have been looking for something to fill the wide open area on my trans hump. So for $150 I took care of that problem and will get a little better sound at the same time. Thanks for the help.---Paul

How hard is it to get the door panels off? Does it require any special tools? I am also looking to upgrade the sound in my Crew but I don't want to drop the dough to replace the head unit. If the stock stereo is say a 5 on a scale of 1 -10. What is it with new speakers?
