Talking Ordered 03 Screw

Hi Guys,

Im new to the forum but I have a couple of questions for you. I just ordered an 03 Screw with FX4 package, 5.4 L, Captains Chairs.

My questions are as follows...

Does anyone know where I can see the new color coming out for 2003 which is Burgundy Red Clearcoat Metallic?

Has anyone had any MAJOR problems with there Screws? I've read a bit about the "wandering" here and did not find this to be the case with the Screws that I've test driven.

Also, do you think I should get the stock Goodyear RTS tires or spend the extra 300 dollars on the Goodyear ATS tires?

Overall, are you happy with your trucks? Im looking forward to getting mine!

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to screwland

I love the screw. Only one minor problem a long time back but the dealer was very quick to repair the problem. How much for Michelins??? I have not had any problems out of my GY, but it took a bit of getting use to the handling characteristices ... The first time I drove through a construction site I was caught off guard at the handling of the Goodyears. Changing lanes was not a pleasant experience. I have since gotten use to them and know how they will react in lane changes over uneven pavement. I will keep the stock GY until they wear out, I would not pay another dollar for GY tires . MHO.

Have fun with your screw... how long did they say? Has the build your own on Ford's site been updated yet?

Yeah I hear you on the GY. I've never been a huge fan, however I do like them better than Firestones.

They tell me to expect delivery sometime by the end of September. I sure hope they are right!

The www.forddirect.com website has not been updated as of yet. I had to go to my dealer for the spec sheets and updates in these trucks.

Thanks for the reply.

Jim

Spend the $300 on the AT/S - it is well worth it. I had the AT/S on my 99, they had decent grip and at 35k miles still had 1/2 tread. My 02 has RT/S and they don't grip anything. Even with the dog 3.55 rearend they are always squeeling...and taking corners a little quick they squeel. RT/S = junk. The AT/S also look much better, they have thicker and more aggressive tread.

I hope you ordered it with Limited Slip rear. It's not standard.

Thanks for the reply about the tires. I am definitely going to get it with the ATS.

As far as the rear, for 2003 a 3.73 limited slip year is standard with the Screw if you get the FX4 package. So Im all set!

Anybody else have comments on reliability of the Screws? Just curious..

Thanks,

Jim

Sounds like Ford finally got with the program and made LS standard with the FX4 package.

Another comment on the tires:

Instead of throwing more money at the dealer for different tires (I personally wasn't impressed with the GY ATS I had on an old company vehicle - didn't do worth a flip in rain), check with some tire shops near your dealership about trading. Most tire places I talked to were willing to give me a decent amount of credit for new take-offs with very limited (think one said less than 200) miles on them. I ended up paying about $190 plus my five stock Generals (bottom of the line model that came on my truck) to get five larger all-terrain tires (including mounting and balancing). Food for thought.

I had the opposite experience...I bought my 02 Screw with the RT/S, knew I didn't like them, drove the truck to the tire store with less than 100 miles on it. They would only give me $30 a tire trade in on BFG TAs, so it was still going to cost me $650. That's why I recommend spending the $300 (240 invoice) on the AT/S upgrade...

And Ford did finally get it right - 3.73 LS again!!! They really liven up the 5.4 I'm still regretting the 3.55s

I hear you guys on the tires. I've had similar situations with past vehicles and it seemed that most tire dealers did not want to make the swap, (at least where I live.)

I think im going for the ATS. I know that they are better than the RTS and at least I dont have to shell out all the additional $$$ for something else.

Appreciate the comments.

This is kind of late .. but I noticed yesterday that my 2001 screw came with AT/S Gooodyear tires. I know I was not charged anymore for them (looked at the window sticker again).

Drive safely ... these tires are not made for handling. They did a GREAT job last year in the snow. (The little I was able to find.)

... enjoy the truck...
