Flat Spot in the middle
I own an 01 HD F150 3.73 rear gears. All options except the Rear Slider. Since new the truck pukes white solid dust particles out the vents, particularly going from A/c directly to DEF. Up until a few weeks ago the truck ran flawlessly. It has developed a flat spot somewhere in second gear. Acts like I am dragging an anchor. Just sort of hangs there and can't decide whether to run of drift around in sec gear. At WFO it scearms. I have a K&N FIPK and a dynamax muffler. No other Mods. Seems to run worst during hot weather. Three dealers all claim the standard action. NO CODE NO PROLEM. I put 30K a year on my trucks I assure you I can tell when they are sick. Called Ford they said they we so happy that I called, they woulld be glad to document the problem. However they had NO suggestions. Whoooopee!
I am at the point of trding for something else. This girl has 31,000 on her and soon good old Ford can wash their hands of my problems.
Any suggestions?

sengland,
A few questions for you:
Regarding the muffler, did you change out the pipes too or just the muffler? If you changed pipes, what size did you install?
Trans fluid change? (should be done at 20,000 miles)
Does it make a difference in 2nd to 3rd gear shifting performance if you have the overdrive turned off?
With the K&N, have you cleaned the Mass Air Flow sensor yet? These may get contaminated with the K&N filter oil.
Do you use any fuel system cleaner in the tank...i.e., Chevron Techron injector cleaner?
Have you reset the computer?
Have you noticed a drop in gas mileage?
Also, did the dealer resolve the white dust particles from the A/C vents? There is a Ford tech service bulletin for this.

Thank for the reply!
I had installed a Dynamax with same size inlet and same size outlets. I did a simply 6 inch long with turn downs for pipes.
I have not cleaned the Mass Air Sensor however I have cleaned the K&N. It did this before I cleaned the filter and still is. However how do I clean the mass flow?
I have had the computer updated for the Ford TSB that claims loss of power at temps around 140 F. Came out June something 02.
I have NOT changed my tranny fluid I thought it was good for awhile. Did not know it was to be changed at 20,000.
I have NOT had any drop in fuel mileage at all.
Can you please help me with the TSB on the white dust. NO ONE has ever heard of such a thing and the dealerslook at me like I have made this up!!!
And yes I do notice that with the OD OFF it seems fine. However I have never had a drop in RPMS or anything like a miss. So this hessitation must be in the tranny. But the dealers say the comp controls the tranny and with no code it must be fine.

Do a complete trans fluid flush (includes fluid lines and trans cooler), new filter and full synthetic fluid.
Here's a link to the TSB on the white flakes coming from the vents.
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/tsb/central2.cfm
Print it out, call the service manager you spoke with, have him do his homework, then call you back for an appointment for their repair.
Do us all a favor and fill us in on what the dealer did for the white flake fix...specifics if you don't mind and how the driveability is after the fluid change.
