Talking Questions any Mom would love. . .

I finally have the green light for a new Screw from the wife <insert joke here> I had originally intended to get an 02 L, but my wife and I now have a beautiful little girl to attend to. So no L .

So now the questions:

I was talking to the dealer today and they told me that I couldn't order a Screw anymore, that production was over for 02. Is this true, or do they not want to take orders

I have found a few trucks that meet my "basic" needs, except they don't have sun/moon (whatever it is called now) roof. This is an extreme deal breaker for me. I was told the dealer could install it. I have read horror stories in here about dealer installs, can anyone put my mind at ease.

Has anyone had dealings with north Atlanta dealers, Billy Howell or Team Ford North Point. How you felt about your dealings with them?

I saw that a member had attached a bike rack on the bed of a Screw. Any info would be great, especially if it was placed over a bed cover (planning on the undercover bed cover)

Finally the 4.6. I really wanted the 5.4 but the price brought it up to much (especially if I can't order it) is there that big a difference? (no towing just long trips between Michigan and Georgia)

(pre answers to you questions: No I don't want an 03, especially if the exterior looks like the Expy. Also the price increase would be to much. so there )

Whew! Thanks!

thanks but. . .

has 02 production stop?

Jefflaws - what your telling me is that there will be no external or interior changes. My real want is to order to get the options I want. I am being told I can't.

Production may not have stopped, but all the orders currently placed are on 03s. No cosmetic changes till 04. They should be able to price you a 03 and it should be about the same as a 02. Some of these guys in here have already ordered 03s.

email me

I think I can get you looking in right direction regarding dealers. Do you have A-plan or X-plan? That is the easiest way to get a great price. I do not have either of those but I was able to lease a 2001 Expy and purchase a 2001 Supercrew at true dealer invoice from a Ford dealership near the Cumberland area. It was as painless as it gets. I just leased an Infiniti G35 and you talk about a PAIN in the ***. My lease on the Expy comes up in April, so I will be back to the Ford Dealer to buy another at invoice.

Go with 5.4 if at all possible. You will not regret it. i have never seen where anybody was sorry they purchased the 5.4.

From everything I have seen and thats been posted on this message board there is no body changes in 2003 SuperCrews. They will be in the 2004 model year. Anyway, email me and I will go into more detail of my experience if you like.

Hmmm

Well that's nice to know, thanks! I will check with a different dealer on Monday about that option. <drool slobber>

screwfun
The last time I checked the board there was still some debate as to changes for the Screw in 04. So that's why the confusion. Cumberland, that's still a jog from Ballground <hoo wee>

Good point about A/X plan, I left that out, Yes I have access to A-plan, so I was more concerned with "dealings" with these dealers than price.

Anyone care to take a shot at the rest?

Dealers

Since you have A-Plan you could go to the closest dealer and purchase from them. It might help you out when you need it serviced. That is unless that is why you are looking somewhere else.

I pass by three Ford dealerships to get to the dealer I purchased from, but their service is by far the best I have ever experienced. I will continue to go there for service and to purchase my next Ford. They have been very honest and I have nothing but praise for them. I used them years ago on an old Õ88 Bronco I had and they did that service right.

My wife did not want me to spend too much time getting her car serviced. So at her request I made the mistake of taking my wife's Expy to a closer dealer (Dawg-gone) for the first oil change. First off their 10 minute oil change turned out to be over an hour and a half wait (That was with an appointment.) Driving home I noticed the suspension light was flashing. Called that Dealer back and they said to bring the truck back and they will try to work it into their 'regular' service center later in the afternoon. Before I headed back to them I called my dealership and without hesitating he told me to look on the passenger side firewall near the floorboard and I should see a switch ... just re-set it and the suspension light should quit flashing. The problem was when they jacked up the Expy they did not turn off the Load Leveling Suspension and the circuit tripped. Home of the Dumb Dawg Deals would be more accurate advertising

Good luck with your decisions ... oh and my wife does not ask where I am taking her Expy to get the oil changed any more.

O.K. We have come to the conclusion that we will be doing the buy this week <giddy>

and since I have a few answers and have located my prime subject for purchase <woohoo> it's a matter of time.

but now comes price. can anyone tell me what % the a-plan works at. I am trying to get the finances down on this and want to be well armed befor "working" with the dealer. lets "say" that I were to buy a Screw @ $30,000 MSRP (the total Invoice of $27,000) could someone tell me where I would fall aprox after tha A-Plan reduction

thanks

I had a 99 SCab w/ a 5.4 and just got a 02 SCrew w/ a 4.6. I opted for the 4.6 since the 5.4's in my area keep blowing up. There is some difference with getting on the highway. I think that going from the lighter SCab 5.4 to the heavier SCrew 4.6 made it feel even worse.

The 4.6 isn't a speedster stock. I plan on putting the K&N FIPK in it that i had in the other truck to give it a little better kick getting up to highway speeds.

I didn't have an a/x plan when i got mine, so i'm not sure if it makes a difference, but see if the dealer can look around at some other dealerships that they deal with and see if they can get the right truck for you from one of them.

GivingGround,

Congrats on the new truck! I have the 5.4 and love it. Sounds like you are getting more than enough help in the dealer/purchasing department. I put a Retrax bed cover on mine and mounted a Yakima rack on the bed cover. You can see all the info you need at my website for my truck.

Good luck on the wheeling and dealing.

Here's what I did when I made may A-Plan purchase last October, and agian for my wife's Ford Escape this summer. Have a look at www.forddirect.com . this lets you search the inventory of dealerships in your area. You can download the window sticks, and they list the invoice price on the website. Call the dealership, explain to the sales man/woman/child that you are a serious A-Plan buyer looking for the A-Plan price on (insert dealer stock number here). Some places are leery of giving you the A-Plan price, some like to have your PIN before they will tell you. Once you have the figure, you can figure out payments or whatever your situation may be. It's really easy, the only negotiation is over a trade if you have one. One caveat about the A-Paln--THEY MUST SELL OUT OF DEALER STOCK OR ORDER IT FOR YOU-- they cannot go to another dealership and get a vehicle for you! Believe me, I know after driving home from the dealership in my old 89 Bronco after the dealership got me a beautiful 1987 Expedition that I couldn't take home.
You don't have to worry about "working the dealer", if you aren't trading. Pick a dealership that you feel would give you the best service, and that has what you want.

A,X-plans from other dealers

BroncoDave,

Not sure what the rules were in '87 but my dealer in St. Louis found the truck with what I wanted in IL and got it for me under the Z-plan (for retired employees - the tired ones still have to use the A-plan!). The dealer did a search of IL, MO, OK, AK and didn't seem to have a problem with getting them (although he would have charged something if they would have been hundreds of miles away).

Screwn-
As far as I know, that still applies for the A-plan. I was told the same thing when I bought my wife's Escape a couple months ago. Maybe the Z-plan is different.
Giving-
congrats!! You'll love your truck.
