Is KBB wrong about the 3.73 gear option and 17" rims?

according to the ford website, you can't get a 3.73's with a 5.4 XLT. Or am i doing something wrong?

you can get it with 4wd, not 2wd. so if its a XLT 4.6 4x4 , yes you can get it, if its a XLT 5.4 2wd or 4x4, then you cant.

To help confuse - look at the bottom of page 14, footnotes 7 and 8.

Then compare to FX4 package on page 8.

Wheel sizes are one page 7.

Looks like 3.55 with SuperCrew 4x4 and 16 inch wheels.
3.73 with SuperCrew and 17 inch wheels.
Overridden if you get the FX4 package to 3.55 LS.
(However - how do you get 17 inch without FX4?)

I think there is something in there that says except supercrew, see you can get 17" on a reg cab or super cab without FX4 or lariat, just not on a supercrew, and that guide is for all F150s.
Thats also a 2003 guide, and all the info ive been looking at is for a 2002.

I agree, except the footnotes specifically say SuperCrew.

I just ordered mine (still confused about the color), but I don't really know what gear ratio I am going to get with the FX4.

It does appear that I may can force it to 3.73 as an option, though.

did u order a 2002 , or 2003?

and also what engine did u get, if its a 4.6 FX4, you have to get a 3.73, if its a 5.4 FX4, it has to be 3.55. (if u ordered a 2002)

Well let's see! I am looking at the DORA for my 2003 4X4 XLT Styleside 5.4L Screw w/FX4 package which I ordered two weeks ago AND IT SAYS:

55R FX4 OFF ROAD EQUIP GROUP

P265/70R-17 OWL ALL-TERRAIN
3.73 RATIO LIMITED SLIP AXLE
SKID PLATES
17" CAST ALUMINUM WHEELS (4)
RANCHO SHOCKS

I hope this helps. By the way this is my second Screw. The 03 is replacing the 2001 4X4 XLT Screw which I have owned since August of 2000. I love these trucks!!

Mike,

Sounds pretty convincing to me, besides, according to the 2003 options and standard configuraion pdf file the 3.73 is standard on 4x4 Super Crews with 17" tires. In other words, if you order an FX4 package, you get 17" wheels and therefore you'll get 3.73 gears whether you want them or not. It's about time Ford.

That sounds great. 3.73 LS will be nice. Now if I could get the paint job worked out.

Mtnmike - that is what I am doing also. Replacing my 2001 with a 2003. They are great trucks. I get nothing but compliments. What color(s) did you get?

17" 10-spoke wheels were a 2002 no-cost option on the XLT 4x4.
I have seen one (and driven it) at a dealership in Greer SC.
I have a photo of the truck and the invoice sticker.

ok, so like a limited time run, like free running boards and sliding back glass was for a while in 2001. Its just not in the books.
