Stock Tires

I got my '02 Screw at the end of April and it's on the shop having a bunch of stuff done. One of the things is having the tires replaced due to tred seperation. All four tires show signs of it, major showing on the passenger side. I got Generals with mine. I was wondering if any got any other type of tire with theirs from the factory. I had Goodyears on my 99 and no problems.

I got Goodyear Wranglers with mine. They've been good tires. No problems, 30K miles and still have a good 3/8" tread depth. Mine was an '01 though... pre-firestone fallout.

I got my 2002 Screw at the end of April also with the General AW Grabbhers on it. No signs of tread seperation, but have wrinkling/ripples in the sidewalls of three of the tires.

General Grabbers gone

My 01 had 36,000 mile on it and the Grabbers started cracking in the valleys between the tread. It resembled dry rot.
Tread was going away fast so I replaced the 255-60's with
Goodyear 265-75 wrangler RT's. They fill the wheel well better which looks good with the 2" drop, and the ride is much better.

Thanks for replies.

I wish that with all the money that we dish out for these trucks that Ford would give us decent tires. When i had my Camaro, Generals were the cheapest tire the Town Fair Tire Store carried for it.

NJFF-Screw, the ripples on the side walls are what i have on my tires. The service guy called it tread seperation. The tread on the outside of the tire is not detaching from the tire. I guess it's something internal, but what you have is what i have.

The sales guy told me to check with the guys doing the oil change at the dealership what they thought. At first they said that it was normal wear, and tried to blow me off. But after i told them i had bought the truck at their dealership and it happened from the beginning, they told me to have the dealership replace them.

Thanks again for the replies.

Does anyone know if dealerships are using the Goodyear tires anymore?

I am glad you wrote a post about this because I have the Generals on my truck (purchased in May) and I am concerned about the summer heat on the tires. I am going to check mine out when I get home. In light of Ford's recent history with tire problems, you'd think that Ford would make sure it puts a decent heat rated tire on its vehicles.

Does it make a difference whether the vehicle spends most of the hottest part of the day in the shade? I have covered parking at work so they are not baking all day in the direct sun.

Bdmofo,

I see from your handle that you are in Mass. Mine came through with the Grabbers(purchased 9/2000) , I ran them for almost a year, till I put goodyears wranglers RT's on it. Trust me, you don't want the Grabbers in the winter. I thought this thing had a handling problem, till I took it down the driveway before I cleaned it out and realized that the tires don't "grab" the snow just fill up and glide over the snow. Last winter with the goodyears it was back to normal driving, no problem and just a lot of fun. Glad your changing them, you'll be glad that you did.

Road I don't need no stinkin' Road!!!!

My 2001 Screw came with Generals as well. At 30k, I am replacing them. Tires are fairly worn. Those guys at Ford certainly do seem like cheap asses to me.

I am pretty much sold on Mich LTX m/s. Check out Sam's or Costco if they are in your area. Great prices!
