Popping when turning and braking.

Hi.. i dont know if i have a supension or a brake problem. My 02 4x4 w 5,000 miles has started to pop when turning left and braking at the same time(sometimes occurs turning right). Its more noticable if braking/turning over rough roads.. can also hear it when i pull over my curb into my driveway..its defintely in the front..

Its a single pop or clunk..

I grabbed the anti sway bar and shook it..didnt seem loose..

Any advice?

I see your waiting for a reply.......

I guess a trip to the dreaded dealership service department is in order.

Sorry I can't be of any more help.

Try this out - next time you go to the dealer for a service, have them lube your idler arms in the front. Someone mentioned this months ago and because I was having the same problems, I asked the dealer to do it. Problem solved for a couple of months - I need it done again. We pay the dealer for an oil and lube, however I think a lot of times the lube part is left out.

What you described is a perfect description of what it sounds like when your CV shafts have cracked. But since you have 5000 miles, I'd say you're a tad premature for that problem. Still, could be that they were cheap/defective.

Sounds like a very similar problem we had with our Grand Marquis a while back. It would make a pop from the front end when backing out of the driveway and cutting the wheel hard to the left.

Turned out that all that was needed was some lube grease on part of the steering mechanism. A guy at the dealership showed us when we had it in for something else. Never would have found it on my own. There was no nipple for the grease gun just a little depression that needed to be filled up that could only be seen when the wheels were turned all the way to the right or left.

The F150 steering hardware is different, but sounds like it could be a similar problem.

I can sure attest to the oil change/lube places skipping the lube job. Although I almost always do my own oil changes, once when I was snowed under my wife took the abovementioned Grand Marquis to our local Penske auto center for the "premium" oil service that was supposed to include, among other things, Mobil 1, Rain X on the windshield, topping off of all the fluids, checking the tire pressures, etc. When I got home from work I immediately noticed some dead bugs were still on the windshield. Obviously no Rain X had been applied. I popped the hood and saw that all the fluids were still low as well. There was a new oil filter. Who knows if we got the Mobil 1 or not.

All oil changes are now done in my driveway by yours truly.
