Exclamation Interesting power increase

OK, not that I would do this for long periods of time, but when I installed my K&N FIPK, I left the MAF unplugged. During my test drive I noticed a lot more power. I shut it down went inside and later restarted the truck and the check engine light was on, that's when I noticed it unplugged. I was able to spin the tires from a rolling start though. I want the power back w/o the check engine light. I'm sure it's not good, but there has to be a mod there to increase the power, or a way to change the MAF to increase power.

Any thoughts?

I am no mechanic but I believe the purpose of the MAF is to regulate air flow into the engine. When you disconnect this your engine may run either very lean or very rich. I would imagine that this may damage your injectors or make your engine run very hot and possibly overheat. This may also effect the engine if the temperature changes dramatically where you live.

Just a couple of ideas.

The MAF measures (doesn't regulate) air flow in order to know how much fuel to inject. When you disconnect it, the ECU goes into "open loop" mode and injects a pre-set amount of fuel. The truck was probably running rich. This can be hard on not only the engine, but the emissions system too.

For more power, consider a Superchip. They adjust fuel & timing to give you more power- safely.
