Well, I looked at it when I got home from work, it's about 18g at the bulb by my estimation. I attempted to put my meter in series to measure current draw, but the driver side bulb didn't light. After checking fuse #27, a 5 amp BTW, it was now blown. It worked not 2 minutes before.

Oh well, off to get a fuse now I guess. Hmmm. Hoped to confirm my calculations above by doing this. Sorry.

Well, the 5A fuse #27 is blowing upon insertion now, with the stock bulb, lights off. Passenger side lights up fine. Anyone know where that relay is......

Sorry 10th that your fuse is blown. Thank you for testing that out, I do agree that if it draws too much power then the fuse will blow before the wiring frys. If not then Ford has a faulty design.

As far as your delema right now goes, I hope you can find the problem, not an electrical person, but thats strang that the drivers side will not work but the passenger side will????

I wonder if it's a return of my electrical gremlin that I had back in Feb. They did some wiring harness repair back then when I had problems with my headlights. I may take it back for another look if I can't figure it out. Could there be 2 relays for the fogs? One for each side? That's about all that makes sense at the moment.

I probably ought to order that Ford service manual, might be helpful in times like this.......

Did you ever stop to think that those bright bulbs of yours might be annoying to other drivers who share the road with you? I see cars and trucks all the time who run their fog lights all the time. Those lights are called FOG lights for a reason. They are there to provide extra light in the fog or on rainy, low light conditions. When you use extra bright bulbs and then run fogs all the time, you are blinding the oncoming drivers, not to mention annoying the crap out of them. If for no other reason, think about the safety issue of cars coming at you who can't see because of your lights!

Just my .02 worth!

I have though about that, and I do understand about your concern with the extra bright lights. Yes my lights are brighter but they are not at a higher angle.

Yes it probley does annoy other drivers of cars or lower veicles a bit more. One of these days I am going to have someone else drive my truck and see how bad they are to someone driving in a car. IF it is really bad then I will take action.

I enjoy the extra light as it is easier to see the road, making it safer for me. But if the extra light is blinding other drivers then I have to rethink this as I don't want to take away the saftey of others for my sake (too much), I am still number 1 as far as my saftey is concerned.

Also I look at the luxury cars and SUVs that have the HID lights that are even brighter. The only anoyance those give me is the color diffrence, it kinda sticks out of the crowd. But the really anoying ones are those bright yellow lights, at least to me.

What is everyone elses opinion on this? Curious to hear from all of ya.

Dcovell,
I just read your last post, then re-read mine. Sorry if I sounded harsh. That was not my intention. I guess I was just venting a little bit. I've been blinded many times by overly bright fogs, but I guess I didn't need to take it out on you.

Catch you later.....

Superbru,

You big meanie. I'm not coming here anymore J/K.

I too thought about the additional lumens being forced upon my fellow drivers, but there were 2 things done recently. One was to do the switch mod-- to have the Fog/Driving lights on with parking lights. No additional strain there, actually now I can have 2 lights on instead of all 4 if I choose.

Second, as much as I'm opening this up for flames, the actual amount of light being dispersed is not linear either with respect to bulb wattage rating. Going from 42w to 65w is part of the increase, the color temperature of the white is another, and as dcovell mentions, aiming is very key. Remember that intensity drops off as a square of the distance. So at 50 or 100', as much as we like to justify in our minds the value of replacing a $6 bulb with a $25 bulb, these are some pretty expensive upgrades with respect to bang for the buck. Meaning, I just spent $50 for two bulbs that normally cost about $12 a 316% increase for a 700 lumen increase per bulb. Not sure where they measure this, but again, we're not getting triple the light output. And the 70% we are getting is from converting from a 9145 class bulb to a 9005. Out main headlights are 9007's and have output of 1000/1350 (lo/hi beam) at 55/65w.

Another observation I have (just got the brain thinking-- not a bad thing at all) is that the standard Sylvania halogen replacements have the same lumen output as the Silverstars!-- Just at 3500 degrees instead of the Silverstars 4000. Daylight is 5400 degrees according to their chart. HID is even closer to daylight 4100, and they have a Xenarc Auxilary model at 5400-- daylight for pete's sake!

Oh, well. Certainly beat this horse. Now-- to figure out my power/wiring problem....

I just picked up the silverstars yesterday...They are much brighter, now I can just run my headlights alone instead of the headlights, foglights and aftermarket driving lights...although, I love the way the road is lit up ahead of me. I do have to aim my left headlight though, it is a little high, I have the tool but haven't had the time. I plan on pulling up to a clean wall and adjusting the left beam to be at the same height as the right. that should do it.

When I lift the front of my truck up (torsin bar lift), I will be making an appointment to the alignment guy and my dealer as weel to get the lights adjusted.

What tool are you referring to? Is there a headlamp adjustment tool? I thought you'd just use those little micro adjustments ***** that are mounted on the posts where they mount.

Humm...I just picked up a pair of SilverStars at autozone yesterday and took them for a spin last night. Disappointed. Yea, they're "whiter" than my factory lights, but as far as being brighter and lighting up the road I personally think the factory ones are brighter. Not worth the $50 IMO. Time to sell those an my HD headlamps and go for the xenarc

I know what you mean about them not being brigheter, I thought that too at first, but the color tempature is much higher and compared to the other lights they seem to not show up as much on the road. If you also install the other lights in the fogs and run those at the same time, WOW! big diffrence. The Silver Stars seem to project themselves a little higher so putting the fogs in (9005) makes a huge diffrence. Waht I want ot do now is have someone else drive my truck and then see what the headlights look like from another car.
