33k and time for tires. Dilemma!
I have 33k on my SCrew and it is time to dump the crappy, cupped, worn Goodyears. I have the Lariat 4WD with the 17" rims. I want a slightly bigger tire than the stock 265/70/17, but the only decent 285/70/17 available is the BFG Mud-Terrain TA KM. It is pricey, and I don't want the tire noise since all my mileage is highway/city except for the 4 month deer season. They look good, though. I wish they made an AT KO in that size, but no joy.
If I put on 16x8 wheels I can go with 305/70/16 which looks great, but will blow my whole tax refund check.
I can get stock-sized Michelin LTX M/S at Costco for a great price, but Michelin does not make a 285/70/17. Dangit!
Decisions, decisions.
BTW, I'm also putting on new Bilstein gas shocks.

Why did you tires wear so fast? I had two tires of the same size and brand on my Exped that lasted 80k. Just wondering. However this delima with sizes is why when I bought my new SCrew I made sure it had 16" rins on it.
I have heard good things about Pro-comp. They make a 33/17. Not sure how they would wear on a 7.5" rim. I only have .5" more. My 33's wear ok, I have to keep pretty low pressure in them (32psi) so the center doesn't wear out to fast though.

Why they wore out so soon? Hmmm, maybe it was the two trips to Camp Perry, Ohio, from GA, and the 4 to Florida. Also the ripping up 'n down those red clay roads of the Georgia deer country. Not to mention the brutal stop and go aggressive driving required in the Atlanta metro area, which I traverse a lot. I guess you could say I drive hard and live hard. I still get a solid 16.5-17 mpg with my mods, and that is with my foot in it. They still have some tread, but maybe it's just that I don't run 'em as low as you do. Or as they constantly say on the wwwait, YMMV.
Go for the ProComp 33 12.50 17 on the stock 7.5 rim. They fit perfectly with no rubbing. The TAs are quiet on the road and perform well on the trails. I believe if you go with a 33 on 16 inch aftermarket rim you will need to trim slightly due to the offset.
Well, I think I am going to stick with the stock size 265/70/17s and go with either the BFG AT KO or the Michelin LTX M/S. I am leaning toward the BFGs at Costco for $169.99 installed (I don't like the French).
I just can't see spending $1400 for wheels and tires, so I'll stick with the 17s, and maybe when these wear out in a couple years there will be a better selection of 285/70/17s available.

Is that 169 per tire, or total. It that is total I might reconsider doing that, but I plan on putting on the Pro-Comp 33's. There's lots of good talk about those and I like the looks. Its a compromise to getting a lift.

When I have the dough, I will pick myself up a set of the Procomp 33's. I will do the torsion front end lift first to level it out and some Bilstien shocks. With the 33's and the shocks and the torsion bar adjustment, it will look like a got about a 2" lift. Also an advantage to not getting a lift is (it's cheaper) I'm not messing with the factory suspention.
As mentioned above ... Michelin owns BF Goodrich , and even if you don't like the French almost all Michelin tires sold here are made here unless you are getting some really obscure size or market demand exceeds market supply.
I just got home from the ole wheel mill (3rd shift) the tire I'm making now is almost $400 a pop ! but it's tires for big rigs ... so multiply that by 18 plus a spare !

I just replaced my OE BFG's at 38K with Michelin Cross Terrains. I am very pleased with the dramatically better and quieter ride. My truck came with 275/60/17's. If you go with the Michelin's, plan on spending around $700-$750 at Sam's.

I guess the French connection can't be avoided.
I ordered the BFG All-Terrain AT KO in 265/70/17. They are $169.99 each installed at Costco - a bit more than the Michelin LTX M/S, but I thought I'd give 'em a try. They should be better in the mud. They will be in next week, and my Bilsteins should be here tomorrow maybe.

I wish I would have seen your post sooner, check out this wed sight, bigotires.com, I have a set of the Big Foot XT's in the 16" and love them, I was very specific about the tire making alot of noise, they have a light hum to them, but won't drive you to drink! I have in the past, had a set of thr B.F.G., and they make about the same noise, but the Big Foot's have way better traction in the Rain and snow, and the all important mud, good luck with your BFG'S
