Bye bye Screw

As of this evening, my 02 Screw 5.4L 4x4 is going down the road.
I have owned it 6 months and am trading it in due to all the problems it has had. At this point, I am only getting 10 mpg on the highway and 6 mpg pulling a 2 place snowmobile trailer. Last Feb. They put a new engine in the truck since I had no compression in 2 cylinders ( they told me it was bad gas, ya right!)
I used to get 15+ mpg with the old engine.
Since then, it has not been good. In addition to that, my AC does not work and my transmission makes noise on a cold start, when 1st put into gear. I also had problems geeting the thing to go back into 2 wheel drive. Guess that truck was built on a Friday.
The good thing is that the dealer is giving me a fabulous price on trade and since my wife is a Ford employee, I get A plan. So, I pick up my new F350 SC V10 4x4 tonight. I had an F250 before the screw and really miss the bigger truck and the V10.

I do have to say that if this Superduty does not prove to be trouble free, it will be my last Ford. I have had severe quality problems with the last couple of Fords I have owned. I have never owned a Chevy in my life, but the next one might just be.

Later,

MJS

Geeez, I can certainly understand why you're upset. I had similar, nagging problems with my 1997 Chevrolet Blazer (yes, I once owned a used Chevy in my 'younger' years). The Blazer was a very nice vehicle inside however, mechanically, it was a piece of junk. The vehicle would RANDOMLY fall into 4wd HI while driving down the highway or down a city street. Talk about pushing a transmission to it's UPPERMOST LIMIT. Also, the fuel guage wouldn't work... it would read from full to 1/2 tank and, that's as far as she'd go. Thus, I was stuck using the trip odometer to 'judge' how much fuel I had remaining and pray that I didn't run out on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. I owned it for exactly 6 months and 17 days until I traded it on a 1998 Explorer. Ahh, my 1998 Explorer XLT. Yet another disaster in the making. The Explorer (which I purchased from a distant friend that is an officer in the Navy (I sincerely trusted his opinion and his care of the vehicle)) ended up dropping the tranny after only 5K of use. Thus, at 41K, I was stuck putting a new transmission in a vehicle that shouldn't be having this type of problem. I know what you all are thinking... "Geesh, this guy must treat his vehicles like crap..." WRONG! I babied these things. Oil changes, tire rotations, waxed once per month, etc...everything that the maintenance schedule suggested happend at the correct intervals plus, I honestly drove them pretty easy.

Now that I've sold the Explorer with a new tranny (Ford did end up paying for 90% of the repair even though it was out of warranty - don't ask me how....all I know is that I have a pretty good service manager that managed to pull SEVERAL strings in the right order to convince Ford to pay for the repair.) and own a Ford SuperCrew King Ranch Edition, I'm praying to god the luck that I've had in the past doesn't follow me to this vehicle. It sounds like it found it's way to your vehicle and, it really sucks. Trust me. I know where you're standing.

I guess what I'm getting at is that ALL VEHICLES on the market have their problems (some worse than others). There's always going to be a bad couple in the bunch. (Heck, I work very near a BMW dealership and it would blow your mind the number of towtrucks I see coming in and out of that place with $50K vehicles being drug behind). Good luck on the trade... I wouldn't trade where you've been taking it for service because they'll know you, and your truck, on a first name basis when you walk in the door.

Again, sorry about your misfortune and good luck.

Goes to show that there are lemons out there of every make. Good luck in whatever desision you make, Chevy, Ford, Dodge, Toyota, Nissan, whatever.

Just find something that makes ya happy. I am a very happy Ford owner (so far) but I have had very good luck with my trucks.
