Moonroof question

Need some help here from all you power moonroof owners.

I got the moonroof option on my 2001 Screw. When washing it the first time I accidentally leaned on the moonroof and was surprised to see that it opened up just by exerting a little pressure on the top.

Last week I went through an automatic car wash and when the cloth thing-a-majigs got to my moonroof the slight pressure again caused my moonroof to sag down and let water in. I had to go through the wash holding the moonroff up with my hand.

My question: is this normal? Is the moonroof supposed to lock in place or what?

It should not do that, go to your dealer and get it fixed. It should lock shut. You should hold the button until it completely closes. You should then be able to press close again and the rear will lift up. This will only work if it has previously closed all the way.

I to have had to hold the moon roof with my hand when going through a high pressure brushless wash or esle it pushes down the moonrool and water squirts in.

rsave and wildcatter,

Get your rigs into the dealership before you soak the headliner and have to have it replaced... I have the moonroof and it's rock solid when it's seated. I had a limit switch problem with mine and it acted like that... when they replaced the limit switches and adjusted the stop points it's alot better.

My factory moonroof is rock solid. No leaks. Over a year old. 20,000 miles on the truck. I go through the "premium" carwash at least once a week and have never had a problem with water entering or it "magically" opening.

I'll second that. Not a problem with any leaking, sagging etc. Seems to be good and solid when locked shut.

I can attest with my old vehicle.... dropping the headliner and having it re-done with cloth is a BOOGER. Make sure you get those moonies fixed. I have a sun/moonroof in mine (factory) and, as it was said before, it's ROCK solid.

Also... you're taking your truck through car washes? SHAME!!! Hand wash it! Your paint will love you for it.

Thanks for the good info everyone. It's good to go to the dealer for service armed with the truth!

My truck got it's first (and let's hope only) car automatic car wash while on a roadtrip in Michigan last week. Got caught in a snowstorm and found lots of dreaded SALT on the truck the next day. Figured a quick trip through an automatic car wash to remove the salt before continuing my journey was a good idea.

I was glad I knew about the moonroof sag problem beforehand. I was ready. No water damage yet.

I'll be sure to get it fixed though.
