The one best advantage I have noticed is in the working of the transmission, It shifts firmer and doesn't have as much of the 1-2 or 2-1 clunk. The power is nice but to tell you the truth, its not that noticable. I have noticed that my MPG's are down but I am in the middle of a test to find out if it is just my imagination. All in all, just for what it does for the shifting, it may be worth it.

Hands down, YES it is worth it!

I love the extra power and even more I love the faster firmer shift. You do need to run the higher octane though so there is an additional cost in the long run, but you could get a custom programed chip or a flip chip so you can still run the 87 octane.

Right now in San Diego it is between a $1.65 - $1.85 for 91 octane, if it gets much higer I may be taking the chip out until it comes back down.

Cool Worth Every penny

I love my chip.......... I got the flip chip so I can go back to 87 if gas prices too much .......
  • the extra power..... IS noticable
  • The shift points are higher so it will wind up a bit more
  • the shifting is firmer

Go for it and you will not be disappointed

Mike

Yikes! I hope gas doesn't go up that much around here in NJ any time soon. I'm paying $1.35 for 93-oct at Texaco.

The Chip is worth it alone just for the improvements in shifting. As we are pretty lite footed, we don't notice the power increase until its time to merge with traffic. That's when it comes in handy. We have also been seeing a nice increase in MPG for highway driving, while the city increase is only a little better.

As for the cost of gas going up, the percentage between regular and premium goes down becuase the delta stays the same. For example, regular is $1.19 and premium is $1.35, you are paying 11.85% more to use the Chip. If gas goes up to $1.49 and $1.65, it is only 9.7% more. Plus (if you aren't heavy footed) with the increase in MPG, you lower that percentage even further. Are you really going to take away all those benifts for a few percentage points? Not me.

Yep , I like my chip . Good power and when I can resist temptation I get better gas mileage . I had a 1.3 mpg increase . I figure that factor , my old mpg and cost of premium fuel @ $1.50 per gallon . The cost for 25 gallons of fuel is about 2 dollars more than regular @ $1.30 per gallon .

In reality , the smile factor is worth more than that . So the bottom line is that "I can resist anything but temptation".

i got the flip chip and noticed it on the hills mostly. I now run it at 87 and have noticed that the shifts are still great and i don't miss the power much (plus it's cheaper). my MPG's are up slightly. I now get an average of 15mpg with a mix of city and 60mi/day commute driving.

Richard--

Advantages: More torque for better towing; more horsepower...always nice when needed; tighter, firmer shifts just plain feel good. Disadvantages: You have to use 93 octane fuel.

Worth the cost? In my opinion, yes. If the price of fuel is of a concern to you, then you're driving the wrong vehicle to begin with!

Good luck,

I have enjoyed the chip, and recommend it for all the reasons listed above. I have the flip chip and have yet to "flip" it. I would recomend just getting the regular chip and yank it out if you're feeling like a mizer. That way you'll save the extra $$$ for the flip chip and the big $.20 per gallon for super on gas. The chip is easy to uninstall once installed. Go for it.
